How do you know if you are overboosting?

What damage can result from overboost?

How do you correct overboosting?

1. get a boost gauge that works or a scan tool such as datamaster that tells you.

2. BOOOOOOOOOM goes the motor!

3. depends on what the problem is such as WG not functioning correctly

If your overboosting for any more than a few secs. the check E. light will come on and then boost is cut to like 10psi.

I believe hes got Gen6 DFI on his truck. So Datamaster isn't going to work for him and I doubt he'll get any check engine lights. I think the only way your going to tell is to get a boost gauge and see for yourself.

I mainly ask because after tuning my boost went up to about 20psi from 17psi. Nothing changed with the wastegate so I figure it shouldn't have gone up, right? I don't notice anything different with the truck aside from the acceleration is much smoother now and doesn't hit as "hard".

He did say something was connected backwards or was wrong with the boost controller and wastegate so it's going back under the knife in a week or so. I just thought it was odd that my boost went up from nothing more than dialing in the DFI.

It shouldn't change that much, but a really poorly running engine will sometime affect boost. 20 psi is going to be pulling timing uunless your using race gas or alky injection.

Its going to be hard to help you will your boost cotrol because you have given a lack of information. What Turbo? What type of wastegate (Internal/External), what type of boost control (manual bleeder, external, no boost control just the actuator)

It's an external Delta Wastegate and a manual boost controller...but don't worry about it for now. I was mainly wanting some insight on "overboost" since I don't know what it really is. That was all. The wastegate and boost controller are all getting worked over next week like I said, so not real worried about my setup atm.

I remember you saying that it was running pig rich before you got it tuned. I'd imagine it was leaned out a bit (i.e. hotter exhaust gas temp) which I would think where your extra 3 psi came from.

Can you explain this a bit more?

I remember you saying that it was running pig rich before you got it tuned. I'd imagine it was leaned out a bit (i.e. hotter exhaust gas temp) which I would think where your extra 3 psi came from.

When it gets adjusted where should it be ran to be an efficient mix between power and gas mileage (and engine life)?
