Painting Cladding... White or Grey ?

Well, tax returns are just around the corner. My plan is to repaint the cladding with my tax return. Only problem is what color to paint it. The body paint is still perfect but the grey cladding looks really bad. At first i wasnt a big fan of the white/grey combo and was thinking of just painting the cladding to match the body so that the ty is a solid color. But i've seen some Ty's on here that look good with the white/grey combo. Or.... Instead of sticking with the stock grey, could change the grey up a little, so maybe a darker grey maybe something with some metalic flake.... Hum?

Here's a pic of the Ty now, i do have some 18" ZR1 polished replicas going on soon as well.

Thats an interesting color, but i was thinking something more like the Titanium Gray Metallic on the RX-8. But i'm leaning towards just going solid Frost White. White is one of the easiest colors to paint and is normally cheaper as well. So going with the white would probably save me some money.

Youre correct in that shades of white are usually a few dollars cheaper to have applied. An added bonus is that lighter colors (especially white) are less labor intensive to keep looking nice so you actually get to spend more time keeping the truck running than washing it. Just ask any person that owns a flawless looking black vehicle how much time they spend keeping it that way.

BTW, lighter colors (especially white) hide minor imperfections in the straightness of the panel as well. Our cladding is naturally pretty wavey and it doesnt show up nearly as bad to the naked eye when its painted a lighter color as it would a dark color. :2cents:

I know exactly what you're talking about with keeping a black car clean. My 3000GT is black, its a pain and it shows every tiny door ding and scratch... :rant:

go with the white ... my pickup is white, hides scrapes and dents beautifully

Hey, what's that barbell lookin' thing on the ground in front of the RR wheel in the second pic? I know I've seen one of those before but I can't quite place it.lol;)

Paint the cladding to suit you. If you like it, to hell w/ everybody else. :2cents:

I say gray. It breaks up the color of the truck and looks better IMO

Yes...I will paint it a color i like, I'm not going to paint it hot pink just cause everybody else likes it... I started the poll because i like solid white Ty's and i have seen some of the two-tones that look pretty good as well. On the "other" category i was hopping to see some colors or options i haven't seen or thought of yet. Ya know.

Right now i am leaning more towards white... I think solid white with the polish ZR1's, clear turn signals and blinkers with a real billet grill is going to look good, especially after a 2-3" drop.

But I'm not really sure what Argent Grey is suppose to look like, since I've never seen another Ty in person. All i have to go off of is pic's off the net. And i see so many different shades of grey i don't know whats what.

I see some that are darker like this....

And others that are lighter more like mine... Granted this one looks more like a Silver than a Grey.

See on my Ty i spent nearly an hour trying to bring the front fender cladding back to life, and when i was done, it is now much darker than when i started. So is the top Ty the right color and the lower Ty just faded like mine, or what?

IMO the all black Ty's look the best.The 2 tone trucks look good as well. I say White/Gray since the only white/white's (except for 1 '92) are 93's.

The top pic that you posted was Loeryder's truck, and I *think* that it was stock paint. The second pic looks like the cladding was repainted silver. If you repaint the cladding Argent Grey, it will come out quite a bit darker than it is right now.

Keep it two tone. I have a promo Sonoma GT that is Frost White / Steel Grey. The grey is a darker shade than argent and IMO, it looks very nice but then again, it is mine :). Can email you a pic if you begin to lean back towardskeeping yours grey.

That seems to make more since... I like the darker greys on the darker colors.. but on white it just seem to me to be to much constrast between the colors. Now, the white a more silverish grey seem to go together (IMO) but light greys against white just seem to look faded.

Seeing as you are in LV, and there arent potholes being filled all the time, I wouldn't hesitate to do either combination. If you lived in an area with constant road work, I would say go with the grey, it hides asphalt and general "crud" better, and like previously mentioned, the wht/wht was '93 only. Go with whatever you like, its your truck, you should enjoy it! Ever consider a darker grey with a high metal-flake content, so it appears darker on overcast days and lighter when the sun hits it? Might be kind of cool:tup:

Actually i saw a Acura RSX today that was a good silver/grey with lots of metallic flake. I was thinking i could stick with a near stock color grey/silver but with metallic flake. The more i think about it the more i like the two-tone.

But as far as the no constant road work in LV thing.... its just the opposite of that, this city is growing so fast that you cant drive down a single street without having to deal with road work... :roll:

I voted argent grey, although white/white is nice, that color combo looks good to me w/that black grill. :2cents:
