Prop shaft gone?

Did a search and didnt really see the answer to my question. I pulled my propshaft (dynatech) and drove the truck without it. The clicking undr heavy boost went away, no burnout, just freeway speed. Anyway the end that bolts to the front diff can be pulled out about an inch. It goes back in, but is that normal? The double jointed end seems to be fine as there is no play or sloppiness.

The clicking could be your chain in the Tcase jumping. Have your propshaft professionally checked, its worth it trust me. Yes it is supposed to go in and out, its a CV. The clicking could maybe be your propshaft so like I said, take it somewhere and have it inspected. If you drive your truck a llot it may be a good investment to get a Gilbert or equivalent.

Re: Prop shaft gone?

The clicking under heavy acceleration went away after I pulled the prop shaft. I thought that meant the shaft was bad. I did the tight circles with a friend outside thing (foward and backwards) and he didnt hear anything. Does that mean the cv shafts are good? I have a transfer case from astro but it has the wrong input shaft, I may yank the chain and swap it if it looks good. It has a bunch of silicone on the seam so I think it has been opened before. If anything I can see what it looks like in there.

Re: Prop shaft gone?

I've been through a few stock propshafts and even had a stock one redone to be 100x stronger only to last three months .......... anyways two out of the three that died on me made clicking noises hours before it snapped and helped itself to the range selector and misc items under the truck........ the only one that didn't make clicking noises before dying on me was the one that bent up when launching against a friend's z06 so i'd like to make some suggestions

reinstall your propshaft, put the truck up in the air and see where the clicking is coming from exactly

if you live close to another syty member see if you can barrow there ps :) or pick one up real cheap or barrow to test with

or bite the bullet if you plan on keeping the truck and purchase a gilbert shaft from one of our vendors or them directly and never have to worry about the propshaft again since no one's ever broken one yet and there's some seriously fast trucks running them.

just my 2 cents

Re: Prop shaft gone?

Well it only clicks under heavy acceleration (boost). I dont know if it will do it without a load.
