I wasn't trying to offend anyone, it just seems like the east coast, mid west, mid east, sourth, and west coast are all totally different countries with totally different ways of life and what not... Then again, that is what makes this country.

I agree 100%, I also have a friend that lives in Ft lauderdale.. he is a oracle DB admin, he loves it.. is trying to buy a house in canada to live at during the hot florida summer months (his wife is from canada)

I'm just starting to realize that the NYC area is a complete mess, traffic is horrible, massive amounts of people, never enough jobs.. super expensive.. I just don't understand how people can afford to live around here...

Oh boy, you'll fit right in then my friend. Gay pride, lots of wonderful diversity, and some big taxes to pay. ;) Lots of good fun stuff to grow and better understand the world around you.

It is true, the job maket is difficult but I dont' know what you do. Just like you said, you can live in a massive house for nothing in Rochester. The problem is that, depending on the area, a 150K house, which is damn big in rochester, will have property taxes from 4-6K a year. That is more than a 600K house in Seattle, and yes, even WA is run by libs. hehe. And if you are looking for a 300-500K house, and i'm not kidding when I say this,...you will pay 15-30K in property taxes a year.

So make sure when you are looking at your monthly payment comparison that a 300K house can have the same payment as a 150K house because annual property taxes are twice as much. In other words, you pay the same, personally own less, but get lots of yummy social benfits and programs. I am not very sure what you get for 2-3times the tax rate...still plenty of pure and totally irresponsible people who are poor due to their own choices and shooting and killing each other for a 20 sack....... but hell my garbage has never been picked up late.

If considering Flordia, which I just was a few months ago for work.....umm, please see avatar.

you know, i'm not even angry at your assumptions, I'm just impressed..
1) I don't do drugs
2) I'm very very responsible
3) what you and others do in their own house doesn't bother me
4) if you want to have a gay pride parade and I want no part in it, i'll make sure to stay away from that part of the town
5) if something is playing on the radio/tv and it offends me, i'll change the channel.
6) I give you alot of credit for speaking your mind 110%, no matter who it offends
7) My family came here from hungry and italy, legal or not, I was born here, therefore I'm an american
8) I'll stear clear of the left coast and the closed minded mid-west
9) as for taxes, I have a 300k ranch, the lot is 100x60, my yearly taxes are $6500.. trash service blows, my power goes out all the time, its a small town, the school system is decent (I don't have kids), I have a septic tank, and my streets rarely get plowed when it snows.. What do I pay for again?

I've been trying to find a way to move to the caribbean, any island.. I can't afford it and their simply isn't enough work.. if it was at all possible, i'd be gone tomorrow.

How bout it?
Re: question for north, northeast members

I live just outside Syracuse, NY. Just about in the middle of everything. 15 min from interstate 90. Taxes are very high, but I built a 3600 sq house with city water, a 3 car garage on 40 acres of land for less than 350k. Winter is about 6 months in central NY.

I was going to suggest Southern NH, but I see you have already rule out MA. Someday I have thought about moving to NH, but the housing prices in NH are creeping up, so its not Cheap anymore, just more affordable than many area's around Boston.

so far all i have found is telecom jobs and programming jobs.. i plan on keeping my eyes open for anything that I can transistion too.. most of the jobs down there provide a house/car to live in and a visa..

Aside from raising a kid in the caribbean (which i don't want to do) I think it would be a perfect place to live.

Like I told you before - Florence NJ taxes are still dirt cheap for NJ. I pay $2800 a year for a $150k house and good sized lot. The houses aren't real big but there's a bunch of em for sale right now in town. It's typical small town USA and it's right on the Delaware River. No room for new building so it's kinda locked in time. 1/2 hour from Philly - 1 hour from NYC - can take train or Turnpike - both nearby. Industry pays most of our taxes. Brand new regional high school just opened up this year.

Re: question for north, northeast members

I'm sure there are IT jobs around here (I'm not in IT), but I'm rather central to Philly/Harrisburg/Allentown/Lancaster/York where I'm at and our real estate is WAY cheaper than NJ although not quite down to Renz numbers. (my place was $104k five years ago, 1600sf on .7acre in a semi-rural area right next to the largest recreational lake in SE PA) With all of those cities within an hour of my place (and downtown Reading 10 minutes away), you've got lots of options so long as a commute doesn't bother you.

Let me know if you want any more info...

you know, i'm not even angry at your assumptions, I'm just impressed..

1) I don't do drugs..........thats good.
2) I'm very very responsible.............thats even better.
3) what you and others do in their own house doesn't bother me.......hopefully they don't make drugs and sell them to the local kids. May want to think about that.
4) if you want to have a gay pride parade and I want no part in it, i'll make sure to stay away from that part of the town...........sure, as long as the homosexuals stay away from my NRA parade. Does that happen? Do they do that?
5) if something is playing on the radio/tv and it offends me, i'll change the channel. Thats good, but kids don't have the same astude filter as you.
6) I give you alot of credit for speaking your mind 110%, no matter who it offends. Can't agree more with you my friend!
7) My family came here from hungry and italy, legal or not, I was born here, therefore I'm an american.....ya, your right but the illegal parents should be deported kid or no kid.
8) I'll stear clear of the left coast and the closed minded mid-west......Good idea, but NY is about as left-coast as it gets.
I don't know, what do you get...thats the point, what do we get for our taxes?

I've been trying to find a way to move to the caribbean, any island.. I can't afford it and their simply isn't enough work.. if it was at all possible, i'd be gone tomorrow.

job market on LBI is great if you know how to take advantage of it.

no, I wasnt at the fire, from what I heard it wasnt anything big. Surf City & Ship Bottom went to assist Beach Haven. Harvey Cedars was called in to cover Ship Bottom. I was perfectly happy sitting at home listening to it on my radio.

Not trying to start trouble... but, what's so great about the caribbean? As a place to live, not talking about as a vacation destination. That would be the end of driving to SyTy meets. Can't be many SyTys on the islands, you'd have to fly to Nats or Homecoming or anything not on the Island---and PIRATES!!!

If you just want the warm weather, Florida (or Arizona, Texas, SoCal, ect.).

I'm not saying the caribbean sux, just a little suprised to hear that thats someones dream place to live. Wait; I just remembered something, Hawaii...

I know there are still bad parts, and living on a small island can get boring.. i've just been trying to find a way to do it for a few years before getting married and having kids, while at the same time not ruining my career.

as for sytys and meets and what not, without a doubt i'd miss it.
