Re: Quick question...

My dad co-signed for my Ty when I was 18 or 19, just to get the interest rate down. They'll finance you no problem, but you'll pay out the a$$ for interest if you want one bad enough.

Re: Quick question...

capitalone autofinance will do loans for older cars if you have good credit. You might want to get a credit card and establish some credit first.

DON"T DO IT!!!

Save up,pay cash.

If you can't afford to buy it,don't.

These trucks are stupid money pits. They will bleed you dry.

Drive a beater and when you get enough cash to buy a nice stock low mile truck,THEN do it.

The best advice I can give to you is NEVER BORROW MONEY.

Re: Quick question...

Get a co-signer, and get pre-approved. They'll tell you the maximum amount they can lend you. Then when you find a truck, tell them how much, and they can approve the loan.

Don't do it, as the guy above said, they will bleed you dry.

Buy a 5.0 Mustang or LS1 Camaro and have fun and a reliable time.

If you do opt to get financing, the interest rate will be 15%+ I would have to imagine....not worth it!

Re: Quick question...

Before you do anything, find out what 'full coverage' insurance for an 18 year old male driving a high performance vehicle will cost you. This could be over $2000 a year and maybe even $4000 a year. If you get a loan, and even if you don't, you will need full coverage insurance. No bank will loan you 10 grand on a car without full coverage and even if they did could you afford to lose 10 large in a car accident?

Are you going to college? Can you afford college and massive car payments and insurance? Will the Sy be your only vehicle and how many miles do you think you'd drive a year? If your going to college you may want to get a Ty. They can carry more than one passenger and lots of beer(that you'll need in college). I know a Sy could carry beer too, but people will steal it out of the back.

Not trying to rain on your dreams but you did ask for advice.

...and you know it's serious when the voice of reason is Jimmy! :rotf: (He's not wrong)

Cut your teeth on a Camaro, Firebird, Mustang. Quick cheap mods are available anywhere, then move up when you win the lottery, sell that inherited mansion, knock off an amored truck, spend the kids college fund, etc...

Definately get a checking account and a credit card to establish credit thou.

x2. Only thing I would add is KEEP the beater once you get the Syclone. You'll need it.

Re: Quick question...

The loan value of these trucks is still pritty good. When i got mine it was around 12k. But credit has a lot to do with it.

Re: Quick question...

I do all of my own work and I enjoy doing it. If I bought a truck with low mileage and in good condition I would still want to do all sorts of stuff to it.. If you are like me I would suggest that you get a beater for now, save up till you have enough cash to buy a cheap trashed sy/ty then have fun restoring it and making it the way it should have been from the beginning.

Re: Quick question...

ive allready got a regular sonoma, and i would be able to make the payments based on what you guys say you pay. I have a job that i dont see leaving for a while so if it is possible to get a loan ill probably put cash aside for the loan/repair. Ps you guys know my answer on the camaro idea. I actually am a very causious driver and the clone would NOT be my daily driver. Thanks for all the info - todd

Re: Quick question...

Buy the green/grey for 4k,drop in a normal 4.3 v-6 from a wrecked sonoma and enjoy the looks of a ty and the pleasure of not going broke. Save your money and try not to deal with the bankers.

Re: Quick question...

i got a loan for my syclone when i bought it, all i had seen of it was pictures. drove from houston texas to oklahoma city OK to pick it up and drove it home. I think that the calling these trucks a money pit is kinda far fetched. if you want to customize any car and make it fast it is gonna make that car a money pit. I have done regular maintance to my truck, upgraded parts when the factory stuff wore out and i do think it has been a relaible truck. I had a 95 integra GSR that I paid 8300 for and a year later looked at the recipts from all the stuff i did to it.......and i do not reccomend doing that with any "project" and I had a little over 9000 in aftermarket parts, no labor. so any car can be a money pit it all depends on what you want to spend and what your goal is to have. My truck needed somethings and I was ok with it because I wanted something that I could drive and work on at the same time. well i fixed just about everything, i have not done the cosmetic stuff yet but it is my daily driver it has yet to leave me on the side of the road or stuck in a parking lot. so really when you look for your truck keep in mind that if you buy a "junker" it will take alot of money to make it right if you want LOW miles and perfection it will cost alot in the begining. I shot for the middle of the road and i am happy with what I bought. However, I do have a family and kids and now i need to sell mine. so there is an option for you, a proven daily driver some upgraded parts. but either way or where ever you buy it, these trucks are fun, if you get one you will enjoy it, they are pretty quick stock and they can be made crazy fast. but when you start getting into the high performance mods is when start breaking stuff, true with just about and car or truck. but i had no problem getting mine finianced, it was under a classic/collector type of loan and they wanted to give me WAY more than what i needed

Re: Quick question...

I borrowed money for Sy and I would do it again for the right Ty. Just make sure you have money for larger repairs and/or willing to let it sit if you don't. (I wouldn't stretch my budget to own a SyTy either)
