Forced to by choice
Re: rack and pinion

I know its on someones ty, but its a v8 swap. Still awd too.

Whenever you do post pics, if you would post a price list on everything included in your install that way it gives us insight on what it takes.

Re: rack and pinion

there's a V8 swap and a stock truck that both has rack swaps, I forget who they are but they have posted pics in the past.

dont really see what single turbo, downpipe and headers would have to do with a rack swap, if anything a single turbo setup would make it easier and the downpipe would have nothing to do with it.

Re: rack and pinion

well to inform you it the hardest part of the project the crossover pipe being in the way. why do you think it's not available nowhere.

Re: rack and pinion

He calls the cross-over pipe the "downpipe".

In an earlier thread, he mentioned he felt the rack installation was made difficult by the cross-over pipe which wouldn't exist on a twin-turbo installation.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh, finally something in this thread makes sense :rotf:

Thanks Dave  at least someone around here has an education

Re: rack and pinion

thank you for those kind words, and yes you are right i ment two say cross-over pipe . i didn't think people would be so critical of my spelling

Re: rack and pinion

We need some details and pics. I've got a 99 explorer rack in my clone but it hasn't hit the streets yet. I had to to a lot of cutting/welding to make it fit. Certainly not an easy task.

What rack did you use? What steering shaft? How did you deal with interference with the upper front diff mount and the motor mount? Were you careful to keep the pivot points in the stock location to avoid bump steer? What tie-rod ends did you use? etc....

Re: rack and pinion

well the install in my Ty is almost done .but I'm in vacation when i come back then I'll finish it .in my install you just have to cut a bracket for the steering strut or steering stabilizer which anyway my Ty doesn't use.it shave a lite piece of the diff/mount bracket (lite peace)
with a cut of wheel . it took me 4 min to cut both peaces of other then that everything else
fall into place the other part which a have to redesign is outer tie-rods .I'll post picture but I'm not that good with computer can anyone tell me how to transfer picture to the forum.

sorry for my spelling but I'm Cuban (Latin) dig........ the only substitute for displacement it force induction and lot of it ............
