Back in January, I got run over by a car. I went to the hospital via ambulance, and stayed for a few weeks. I was in a wheelchair for a couple of months.
While I was in the hospital, a friend got my Typhoon from where it had been parked at the time of the accident and he drove it to my driveway.
About the time I was healed enough to drive again, the sticker ran out. It needed a few minor things (turn signal lens) to pass, but I wasn't flexible enough yet to work on anything lower than the grille, and the driver's seat was too low for me to get in and out of, so I let things sit. I started the engine every couple of weeks until June, when the battery went bad. My truck has the behind the front bumper conversion, so things had to sit a while longer.
I'm happy to report that I got a new battery today and installed it. For the first time in nearly 10 months, I took the Typhoon for a spin.
Back in January, the HVAC worked normally, other than duct isues. I wanted to see if the system still was charged, so I turned it on. I heard the compressor kick on momentarily and the blower fan came on, then everything stopped. I had a few other things to remedy before dark and dinner and mosquito time, so I haven't had a chance to check the simple things like fuses yet.
I wanted to check other settings though, like defrost, heat, etc., and the control was stuck. It would go between OFF and MAX without resistance, but it was considerably more difficult for the other settings, and it felt like something was physically blocking the way above BI-LEVEL.
I know this slider controls vacuum settings, and I presume it has some electrical connections as well. Perhaps something got melty or brittle and jammed.
What's involved in removing the controls? I have a Chilton's book but the description is pretty generic. Step one-disconnect battery. Step two-remove everything, making note of what it looks like before you rip it out. Step three-to reassemble, reverse sequence.
One headlight wouldn't come on. I jiggled the connector and got the light to work, but one of the plastic inserts for the adjusting screw chose that moment to crack. I made a quick trip for a fresh tank of gas and a new headlight adjuster. The tires had flat spots already (the front tires were purchased only a month before the accident), but seemed to recover somewhat during my short drive. Hopefully they'll come back the rest of the way in a few more miles.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that no other gremlins set in during the downtime.
