Random High Idle

My Ty has been idling around 6-700 in gear, which seems to be normal (besides the miss every 15 seconds) Anyway after driving it around for a while today, the idle in gear jumped to 1000 and in neutral it is over 1500. The CE light came on and gave me a 32 code I think (IAC not able to control the idle). I don't remember an IAC on this motor...what else could it be? Vac is good @ 18" Hg in drive.

Any ideas? Maybe it is related to my sluggish performance?

Dr. Evil,

Did you ever get hooked up to a DataMaster? You were going to last weekend or so.

I was wondering what you found. If you saved one or two of the scans, there are guys here that will look at them for you.

This still sounds like you have more than one problem.

I re-checked the codes and it was a code 35, not 32 like I thought. Its described as "Idle air Control (IAC) system problem - can not set desired RPM"

What does this mean on these trucks?

I don't have datamaster yet, I am trying to get a cable. I wasn't home last weekend to meet up with someone locally...maybe this weekend.

Either you have a dirty/bad IAC valve, or a fairly serious vac leak (IAC is unable to compensate for it).

Check/replace you IAC, its located on the lower rear of your throttle body. Also check all your manifold vacuum lines/fittings.

One of the things you don't want to do is to remove the IAC and push or pull on the plunger. If you do, you could really screw it up. Just use some carborator cleaner on it and in the throttle body.

Again, you will need to work this with the scan tool.
