Rear disc conversion

Re: Rear disc conversion

Convert to what? & what vehicle do you want to convert?
Sy is a three hole plate. Tys are 4 hole. Sys need to have 2 extra holes drilled to make it a 4 hole.
Leaving the fronts alone... 96+ & up s10 rear calipers & backing plates/rotors.
Upgrading... 98-02 Camaro/TransAm LS1 fronts & rears. Rears bolt up with minimum mods, like s10 rears. Fronts require additional custom brackets.:2cents:

Looking for rear brake conversion to disc setup?

Using the "search" feature of this site will yeild alot of historical information regarding this subject. Believe it or not you can actually reply to old posts without making a new.

Thanks PPress79 for all your help on the rear disk brake conversion. Half the price of Summit. BTW I'm not spam. Ive spent 25 grand on a all out bowtie build over the past 3 years.

I have LS1 rear disc brake backing plates. Add rotors and calipers and you're done.

Was doing some research on a rear disc conversion and came across your answer in this thread. I'm planning on doing the 2nd generation front end conversion to get the dual piston calipers and I'd like to put discs on the rear, as well. Not looking to shred tires or modify the truck to blow the doors off anything lurking on the streets, I just want disc brakes all the way around.

1) With doing the 2nd generation upgrade up front, would I be able to do the option you mentioned with the 96 & up S10 rear calipers and backing plates/rotors?

2) Are there any special modifications needed to make those parts fit or is this just a bolt-on once you remove the old drums/backing plates?

3) What's the word on hooking up the e-brake to the rear when it's converted to the set-up for the 96 S10?

I saw the other options with the kits being sold out there, but the websites frankly don't have a lot of information on the compatibility with Sy's or Ty's. Thanks.

From what I researched before I tackled mine, the '96+ rear discs bolt right up to the axle on a 4 hole plate. I think trucks up to 94 were 3 hole(could be wrong), but Ty's, being 92-93 Blazer/Jimmy, they are already 4 hole. I don't know about the park brake cable fitment, though. I ordered 'Renz's' LS1 rear cable kit for perfect fit.

Thanks for the quick reply. Headed to the salvage yard on Monday so I gotta look for 96+ for some rear brackets to start getting things lined up. I'll end up doing all 4 corners once I get all the stuff lined up for this.

Just so you know, its 98 and newer, for the dual piston front brakes and the rear disc brakes.

I caught that once I did some more digging last night. I got my donor parts for the front from a 99 S10. Anybody that's done this rear disc conversion and has pics of what it looks like? Thanks.
