Remove checkball and retainer or just checkball?

from what I have understood the reason for leaving the cup in place is to limit the fluid volume(and flow) allowed to the TC. this may be a limitation based on stock trannies and their pumps and prssures. I have never had an issue with removing them from every single trans I have built(and thats a lot of them).

Well, I bought a new billet 9/11 2500 RPM converter from Waller and since I have the trans out, I went ahead and removed the checkball and retainer. If the part-throttle TCC lockups end up being too harsh, I'll have Phil Long redo my V5.50 chip and raise the minimum lockup speed. Will update this thread once I've had a chance to drive it with the new setup.

UPDATE - trucks runs awesome with the new 9/11 billet converter. The TCC lockup is very firm but not uncomfortable by any means. I need to have the minimum TCC lockup mph raised in my Phil Long 50# chip because it locks pretty low (under 50mph, I think) and lugs the motor. I have no regrets about removing the input shaft checkball and retainer and my Sy is a daily driver FWIW.
