Ride hight

Guys,

I wonder of any of you can give me ride hight specs for the front end. I feel that the truck is riding too low (the suspension seems to bottom out more often than it should on some bad roads over here.) I also looked at the underside while the muffler was being replaced the other night, and found that the lower arms seemed too close to the rubber stubs. Are there any numbers I should tell to the alignment guy?

You can raise and lower the front end by tightening/loosening the torsion bars.

If you follow the torsion bars (the green bars near the frame rails) to the back, you will see a bolt on the mount. Turning this bolt will raise and lower the truck around 1.5-2"

Thanks Adam, I know that already (I used to own my own alignment shop when I had more hair :D ) but I was asking about the settings and at what points should the measuremens be made.

eh, just eyeball it :rotf:

I believe stock heights from the factory where 2" lower in the rear from standard Sonoma spec and 1.5" lower from Sonoma Spec. What you would use as reference, no idea.

I measure the gap between the bottom of the cladding to the top of the tire. Unorthadox, but it works.

The 28" with a tolerance of +/- 1/2" from the bottom of the cladding to the ground.

Despite the spec (and I think my torsion bars were untouched), my truck was 27 1/2" on the passenger side and 27 1/16" on the driverside. I like they way it looks at 26.5-27" if the rear can be lowered. The front sort of look like a relative high rider when its at 28.5" Inches.

I know the CV joints/boots work best if they are parallel to the ground.

Well now that you've mentioned it, the primary reason why I posted the question was because I noticed that the front drive axles were tilted up a little bit (the wheel ends were higher than the diff ends) which made me think the vehicle was riding too low. But that's all speculation for now, since the truck may need ball joints and other stuff.
