anyone have any tips on how to get the front wheels clean of break dust? i dont want to use a product that might accidently remove the clear coat. good ol soap and water doesnt seem to do the trick.

u could use this stuff called "acid".detail shops use it for takin off real bad brake dust...u gotta b REAL im mean REAL careful useing it....if i were u i'd take it to a detail shop and let them do it.u dont need to get a full detail just get the outside washed

Most detailing shops that use acid don't use it as stronge as when they buy it. My friend who has a shop gets it and cuts it himself, so it's not as stronge. I've been using it on my rims all the time and it works great. It takes off all of the brake dust without having to scrub the wheels and it's safe for any wheels with clear coat. You could try some Meguires brake dust remover and some elbow grease, or some other stronge brake dust remover from any auto parts store. Just some helpful hints,

you could use (restraunt stuff) STAINLESS steel cleaner in an aerosol can. it is oil based and will shine and remove brake dust. if you know someone in the foodservice business you could also get ss cleaner that is water based.[/quote]

I use Simple Green. Dilute it one part cleaner to two parts water. Works well without all the nasty chemicals. I mix it up in a spray bottle that has the dilution rations molded on the side. Spray it on and scrub the rims and tires with a wheel brush. However, becareful not to get it on your paint because it will take your wax off. HTH's

I tried some "Never Dull" wadding polish. It is for polishing silver and all those other metals. I don't remember what is says on the side of the container, but figured why not give it a little test. I did one of the little groove's as a test to see what it would do. You should be able to pick it up at and walmart/kmart/any of them.
I had to rub for a little, but took the stuff off no problem and it made it shine too.
