roller rocker and pushrod help

will someone please help me. the last 2 times ive posted looking for help ive had no response.
the top end of my sgt is in pieces. planning on putting it back together in the next month. getting ready to order parts and want to put 1.6 full rollers, but i have ?'s that i cant find the answers to anywhere.

is there a way around having to use aftermarket studs?
will i need to use a different length pushrod, and if so any ideas on what length?
also any ideas on valvesprings, i want to drop off heads at machine shop next week so please someone give me some feed back.

Aftremarket studs are better than stock.Stock are pressed in,after market are screwed in. You should be able to use the stock push rods,but if your going to a better performane cam, you should get a performance push rod and they will not flex like stockers can . Again for the valve springs, a heavy duty spring is better than stock, also get new retainers/keepers. Stock is o.k., but once you start going into better performance you should do it all, not just a thing here or there. That now becomes the weak link in the chain.

thanks norm. the stock studs are screw in on my heads already, but they are 10mm not 3/8, so only option is to tap pedestals to 7/16 and jb weld studs in and i dont trust jb weld that much. as far as springs go i want to use stock ls6 beehive springs. any ideas how good the ls6 springs work. planning on keeping stock cam for time being.

ls6 springs are pretty good. I don't know if I would trust jb weld for that application. If it was my heads, I would not use it.

ARP makes a 10mm/3/8 stud to use for your after market rockers:

ARP-100-7201
Base Thread Size: M10 x 1.50mm
Rocker Arm Nut Thread Size: 3/8-24 in.

If you don't change the height of the valves, cut the deck, cut the heads, change the cam base circle, change the thickness of the head gasket you can use the stock length of the pushrod for a 1.6 rocker. What you are looking for in push rod length is to have the roller tip traveling in the center area of the valve tip during the full rotation of the the cam. And easy way to check this is to put some grease on the top of the valve tip, install the rocker and turn the motor over a full rotation. You should see where the travel marks of the roller are on the valve tip. Lengthening or shortening the push rod length will change the contact point of the roller tip on the valve.

Many ppl have use the behive springs of our heads. Just make sure your machine guy picks the correct ones for your installed height vs seat and open spring pressure.

Comp Spring Number #26918 installed at 1.80installed height runs around 130# on the seat and 320# @ .500

Comp Spring Number #26915 installed at 1.80 installed height runs around 118# on the seat and 300# @ .500

Either one would be fine. If your are going to a slightly bigger cam in the futue the heavier spring would be recommended. If your installed height is different than 1.80 then you need to match up with different springs than those listed above as these spring pressure rates will change.

Why would you need to JBweld 7/16 studs after you tap for them?

i seen the 100-7201 studs but didnt think they were long enough. i guess i misunderstood what the article was stating. anyone here used these studs?
