stock stamped rockers? with the 415 cam? I have been advised against that.

I have heard and seen people use stamped steel rockers with .500 lift cams. I would rather used stamped steel rockers than cheap chineese roller rockers that might fall a part and scatter part through the engine. Most SyTy really don't stress the engine with relatively low RPM's.

Re: roller rockers

Sold already it seems.

Also, the seller has less than 11 posts - am a bit nervous about dealing with a TOTAL stranger this far away. Guess others weren't.....

Dammit.

Some bits of personal experience:

1. Crane gold 1.6 roller rockers fit with no mods on stock heads with stock valve covers.

2. Those same rockers also fit fine with L35 heads and stock valve covers, but you'll have to replace the rocker studs (either the metric-to-3/8 adapter studs, or have the heads re-drilled for SBC studs).

3. Those rockers will also fit on L35 heads (with replaced studs) and Vortec valve covers, but you will have to clearance the inside of the covers a little (a dremel sanding drum works very nicely).

4. Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 roller rockers fit just fine with Vortec heads (redrilled for SBC studs), Vortec valve covers and a Comp 412 cam (.533 total lift at the valve). The valve covers require some slight clearancing with a dremel, but not much, and less than the Crane rockers would. As I've said before, NO SPACER IS NEEDED with the Vortec heads and valve covers with the Comp rockers -- anyone who doesn't believe me is welcome to come take a look at my Ty, 'cuz that's what I'm running.

5. The Crane rockers don't seem to hold up on vehicles that aren't driven often. I had to send my first set back to Crane for replacement, because the trunnions had galled under the roller bearings. When I asked why this happened, they said that they see it fairly often on vehicles that aren't driven much because the oil drains out of the bearings while the vehicle sits, and then the bearings are dry when the vehicle is started. Not sure I totally believe that, but that is what I was told.

Anyone have a part number for the Comp Cams Pro Magnums? Are the 1.5s the same as 1.52s?

I guess I need 3/8 for the RPM Vortec heads I got.

Thanks for the input and help guys :D

Continuing to search......

Re: roller rockers

The stock SyTy rockers are english 3/8" rockers. In general the Metric Rockers thread studs are a PIA, because all the aftermarket SBC rockers are english 3/8" or 7/16"

Re: roller rockers

Yeah happy with that - I mean that I can't use the stock GM vortec roller rockers so now I HAVE to buy the aftermarket stuff seeing as i got it machined...

OK...so these appear to be the options. Can someone cast an eye over them and give me their thoughts?

2 of link you provided were the same roller rockers.

On my Corvette, I used the 1.6 Stainless Steel Comp Cams rockers. The set I had was non self aligning, they didn't work nicely on Syclone so I went to different set. When I was on the Corvetteforum, most people liked the Stainless Steel Comp Cams in terms of quality, but they didn't like the price. Many people used and recommend the Comp Cams steel rockers which are similair to the CCA-1317-12 that you picked out. With 415 Cam and .500 Lift you not really pushing the valvetrain limit of what a hydrualic lifters can handle.

Re: roller rockers

Thanks Dave, both for your advice and your editing of my links. That's a pain - sorry about that.

I am leaning on the 1317-12 set but very quickly, what is the difference between those and the 1417-12 set from Jegs apart from the $60 price?

Is there anything to be gained from going with the narrow body aluminium red ones? You'll never see them under the valve covers so what's the point? (PN 1015-12 on Summit.)

As for not stressing the valve train, that can only be a good thing for the motor!

I think the 1417 are the wrong picture on Jegs, on Summit they look like stamped steel rockers with a roller tip.

Re: roller rockers

so it is 1317-12 or the narrow body aluminium ones for $30 more - am guessing they offer nothing other than aesthetic benefits?

anything else before I order the 1317-12 for my build? :D
