Re: Rwd typhoon

there has been talks about this. if you want to use a 2wd spindle you have to either change the frame or section in the front portion of a 2wd frame. someone said something about a brasil s10 spndle working but that was as far as it got. so what did you do? break the front drive shaft? blow the transfer? can't figure out how to make it right?

i agree these trucks are rare as it is, why spend money to do something that is already done for much cheaper. s10 pickup or blazer in great shape for around 1500-2k vs syty in decent shape for more than double the price and if you do the 2wd conversion the truck is worth about as much as an s10.

spend money to make your truck worth less money??? why

Why do you say that minus not having AWD traction? Does removing the AWD stuff changing the structural integrity of the frame?

it doesn't change the integrity of the frame but even a stock truck with no power to the front end will just spin all over the road, not very fun when you wanna take off and end up having to deal with wheel spin all the time.

ah that makes sense

Yeah I have to get an LSD cuz spinning it is no problem at the autocross, in the wet I was actually spinning first gear after I got it hooked. It was pulling fine from 2000->4700rpm, and it would lose traction jump from 4700-5500, but I have alot working against me, like fiberglass leafs, no traction helper, open diff, and it sits about 3/4" higher in the rear, and it's always getting lighter from me pulling parts out.
I am rocking 295 Kumho Ecstas in the rear

no to mention any sort of tight turn in the rain requires an EXTREMELY light foot.

Re: Rwd typhoon

I ran 2wd at nats. 14.2 was my best. Put the propshaft in and went 13.5. Why would someone want 2wd?

Re: Rwd typhoon

the truck has to be set up properly and it will hook. if you take a normal syclone and pull the propshaft it definitely aint gonna hook. depends what you are trying to do.

i used belltech 2wd drop spindles on mine with our coil over front suspension kit. But you can also remove the front diff and gut the axles and just use the stubs to hold the wheels on.

Re: Rwd typhoon

2WD? why didnt you buyy a blazer? :2cents:

I did by a Blazer..

I live in Norway in Europe here we have some stupid rules and taxes.

The blazer i bought is from Norway then i bought a wreced Typhoon from Sweden (neighbor contry).
If i build up the Typhoon it will cost me 27.000 dollars in gouverment taxes i and i bought the truck for 3000 dollars.
So i am going to use the engine, cladding, some bodyparts and the interior from the Typhoon on the Blazer. (I know it dosent make it a Typhoon).
The Blazer i a 4wd.
The Typhoon have a bad transmission and some noises in the transfer case + the front prop shaft is bad to.

I am not going to run drags with it, i will use it to drive to car shows and i littlebit on the track, so i tough i would put a tko 600 5 speed in it and skip the front drive..

Re: Rwd typhoon

ah, good idea actually... make a clone to save on the taxes... idk though i think you should invest a little and get the awd working, its really what makes these trucks so enjoyable... knowing you can hook the pavement anytime anywhere... a good propshaft is like 300 bucks from d&r driveline... and the other parts like the transfer case can be found on the forums. there are plenty of parts trucks on this board, and some people are even giving them away to the government to be crushed. But if you reeeealy want that rwd, invest in some BFG g-force drag radials... these trucks are burnout monsters...

Re: Rwd typhoon

yeah, buy one from an awd astro (transfercase) and reweld the splines on it to make it fit for the ty. don't go 2wd. it's not a pleasent ride. and the 5 speed would suck with turbo power

Re: Rwd typhoon

yeah AWD is what makes these trucks badass, and ahead of their time

Wait, ghetto sled, did you say you use 2WD spindles? I thought they were very different from 4X4s (well aside from the obvious CV shaft hole), like the steering knuckle is on the other side?

I would LOVE to get some lightweight spindles for the blazer, the stock ones are insanely heavy and I am 2WD now.

Re: Rwd typhoon

i used belltech drop spindles.. it's been years, so to be honest i totally forgot the specifics, but they were for a 2wd and i didnt need to make any special parts to hold the wheels on.

if you have any pics or anything that would be awesome,

THe only thing is, are they the same height as the 4WD spindles?
