Sandy Syclone project

I bought sy #2333 on Saturday and have since taken the interior out. It fell victim to hurricane sandy in NYC. When I first saw the truck I wanted to walk away, but it was begging to be saved. I have no clue why I love projects so much. We drained all fluids and removed interior today. Hopefully finding some electronics for it soon and we will see how it runs. It's actually a lot less rusty than I expected. Cladding and body panels need to be lined up but the exterior is pretty good.

Looks good! Just take it slow and clean everything!

Also Change your headline to "cleaning a Syclone" since your not hunting for one.

It's nice to see one being saved. Do your plans include some mods or is it going to be put back stock-ish? Keep us posted on progress.

Re: Sandy Syclone project

I will be interested to see how this works out for you.

I don't think most damage is visible immediately after being submerged in saltwater, I think it pops up over time from humidity with the electronics ---

Probably going to be more to it than remove, clean and replace. But I have seen people start with worse on the forumn and make it nice. You almost need a king kong size dishwasher for it.

Looks like its in pretty ok shape actually... did this truck get flooded out?... looks like just regular old north east rust spots to me... hmm my truck sat outside uncovered through sandy and irene (no flooding) now you have me worried and wanting to give it a couple glances over... :squint:

Re: Sandy Syclone project

Get rid of that exhaust system it'll be holding back any kind of chance of easy hp gains in the future and good luck with the project

Ok. Thanks guys. What do you recommend for exhaust?

I paid ~$180 for a Magnaflow muffler and the shop guy bent all the metal (2.5" pipe) from the cat back. Showed him a picture of the stock setup and he did great...was a Ty which is a bit more complicated. Edit: I am staying mostly stock
