Shortblock Plans

Well, i'm planning out a shortblock for my truck. I figure...

-Stock SyTy block
-Forged stock crank
-Eagle H-Beams (5.7)
-Keith Black 22cc dished pins
-Melling HV pump
-Comp 415 cam
-Double roller chain
-Comp roller lifters

My top end is stock... for now. I just want a decent bottom end, and i only want to do this once.

Future top end mods might include PTE44, bigger injectors, and meth.

Any opinions on the Keith Black pistons?

Re: Shortblock Plans

:2cents: ... i would probably go with the srp,je,or trw pistons... if my memory serves me correctly keith black only offers hyperutectic pistons which are basically what came in our engines in stock form.

Take forged stock crank off the list no one makes one unless you want Billet and have 2500-3000 to spend.

Nitrided stock crank is about the best you're going to get without spending a small fortune. Stay away from the Melling HV also, newer renditions of the M55HV (I think that's the #) aren't designed for a high performance motor it even says so right on the piece of paper in the box. I didn't believe it myself so steer way clear of the Melling High Volume pump.

Re: Shortblock Plans

the h beam rods for a 5.7 small block item arent correct for our applications . need part # d6300 for the 4.3 and spend the extra $ for the good pistons like the srp or je's . kb pistons are poo . trw's would be a better choice then them !

A cryo treated stock crank will work as well and we use Diamond pistons in all our syty motors now.

Ask Ed Hess about the Melling oil pumps.

Hot Rod mag even printed an article about Ed and those pumps.
