As some know, I am trying to get my Ty ready to paint. With any luck, the body work will be complete and ready for painting by the end of December. Now I am torn between painting the truck single stage or do a base/clear. What are your thoughts?

I don't think there is a single stage worth a damn anymore. Go base coat/ clearcoat.

Base / Clear is the way to go. Lay on at least 4 coats of clear and that thing will bling!

Don't single stage paints kinda suck? Like don't last very long? maybe i am wrong. Anyways, i would go with good materials and something that will last. After all, you don't wanna be doing the bodywork again do you?

Re: Single stage or Base/clear

Depends on your color choice. If it is a straight color (NO metallic) then go with PPG Concept single stage. Can't miss there. If you do go single, stick with PPG. There are others and they cost less. There is a reason they cost less and it is not just because of the brand name.

Anything with a metallic, go 2 stage. PPG's line of water base is one of the best and reasonable on cost for a water system. If it is something you are doing yourself and in a place that is not equipped to spray waterbase or has not done it yet, don't be a guinnea pig for the water system. It's not the same.

So for your orig. question, it depends on the color.

Ive had good luck with PPG white single stage. But its pretty hard to muck up white!!:2cents: I would def go 2 stage on dark colors!:2cents:

I painted the car 5 years ago for my son and it still has a nice shine! FOR Maintenance, Regular waxing is a must for single stages!

Done properly, the SS straight black can"t be beat by bc/cc. Won't get into the science of light reflection and refraction but will say, SS for black is the way to go.

When OverHaulin did Chip's old Ford truck behind his back, they brought in Charlie to paint the black and oversee the body work. The paint ='s PPG Concept. Charlie would have used something else if there was anything else better.

BTW, the Camaro looks great in the photo!

I would trust Jim's input on this, his attention to detail is top notch.

2 stage gets my vote as well.

I would probably only shoot a daily drive in single stage at this point.

It will be black. Not sure about daily driven but pretty damn close. Probably 15k year. I used to put 20-25k a year so....
