Spark Retard like crazy...ideas?

Okay,
so I started driving after a new turbo, chip, 3-bar map set up...and I am driving like ms. daisy...all appears to be going fine and then spark retard like crazy....

boost never even became a factor...the highest it got was -8 (yes, that is negative)
speed was very consistent around 25-35
RPM fairly consistant <2K
Spark advance would be steadyish around 35-40

and then it would drop to around 20, and the spark retard would shoot through the roof at 19.9

you can see the peaks of the retard when the advance would fall...should the advance be that high?

do you have a wbo2 on it?I would say false knock or ecm chip problem,and only at tps 18%

Seems like it might be doing it were it shifts,maybe broken mount dp rub etc

You are definitely getting false knock from somewhere. Could be the fuel lines hitting the tunnel, valve train noise etc.

New turbo....I wonder if the knock is coming from the oil lines? Clearance for the new turbo...?? is the turbo hitting on something?

WBO2 would really help you diagose what's going on here!

Well...after trying to get ahold of Mike since last week, I get an email today saying that the new chip is designed to piggyback the stock chip...I got some pictures on how to set it, so tomorrow this time I should have a well running truck...i hope.

That will do it! I made the same mistake with an Ultimate chip... who reads directions?? :rotf:

I told him I did not think it would run without the stock chip piggybacked but started right up... HHHMMM. I hate stock stuff.. lol..

i agree with cloneman315... unplug it , use your ears for a knock sensor.

Worst suggestion ever... If you're hearing the knock it's already too late and the damage is being done. A knock sensor is great tool for detecting knock and retarding timing to prevent damage. ONCE the truck is tuned properly and you're confident in your stuff, removal of the knock sensor isn't a terrible idea. The ks can be a pain in the ass when it detects false knock but it really is a useful safety control....

Piggyback it the same way it came out, it only plugs in one way in the ecm, that is the way you want it on the piggyback. Fly me down there again I will show you. lol.. Was fun down there. Want to do some fishing on the boat. Will brin one of my kids, they both want to go but way to much work with 2 of them.

I agree with you to an extent... If you have a proven truck and a WBO2 the knock sensor is more of a hassel than needed. However, to say just listen for detonation is like saying "just keep beating it until you find bearing material in the oil" or "until you get blowby out the valve cover breathers" or "until your rods come through the pan".... That's the end result.

didnt sound like he was beating it to death, driving it like ms. daisy.1825 rpm,speeds 22-35mph, tps @ 18% and peeked at 19.9* of timing retard, sounds like false knock. but he found the problem, wbo2 is the best tuning tool

here is the new dm run with the chip piggy backed...no knock! Still driving a little like miss daisy though...nervous to go crazy on the pedal just now. Once I am positive that it is right, I'll start weighing down my foot.

here is the chip installed...I have heard that it needs to go in the same way it came out, but I wasn't paying attention when it was removed.... :(

Does this look correct to you guys?
