Starter & downpipe Heat Insulation Wrap

Hey guys,
After a long 6 months of sitting, and spending a week in the hospital from what turns out being Bi-Polar disorder, the Ty will be hitting the road real soon. The tranny is getting redone, and will have to put in a new starter, due to the fried solenoid from the turbo heat. My question was how much wrap will I need to cover the downpipe? I'd like to get it on before I put the new starter in, to prolong the life of the starter.

Also, because it sat for so long, should I flush any of the fliuds (i.e., brakes, coolant, ect...) besides the oil? If so, how do I go about flushing the brake system? I think I could handle the coolant systems without too much problem. Feel free to email me with the info I'll need, as I'm DYING to get my baby back on the road! I also have taken pics of the hit & run I was in 2 days before christmas, and will post 'em ASAP, as with the rest of the photo history since I bought it. Thanks a million again guys, Josh

1.) Use a smaller starter. (Do a search, I seem to remember maybe the 454 starter is smaller and fits. dont quote me on it though.)

2.) Most of the header wrap stuff (not the tape like, just the regular cloth type stuff.) will keep it cooled down enough anyway. Enough to where you can touch the DP without burning your hand. Mine is like that.

3.) Maybe, if you happen to think about it, try and get like a sleeve for spark plug wires in the same type of header wrap, you might be able to use it for the starter wires.

I used the DEI turbo heat wrap kit from Summit or Jegs (cant remember which one). It works great and comes with wrap for the dp also....

eBay has the heat wrap for CHEAP cheap. Many sizes and colors and I plan to get the black wrap for my Supra manifold and downpipe. Also, the heat wrap plug wire boot wraps aren't cheap but well worth it IMO.

Thanks, I'll have to look around now. It'll probably be the same as the wait for shipping from the stores anyway, so I'm always in favor of saving $$$$! Thanks, Josh

I cant find that post but remember it too and the year 1996 sticks in my mind cause when I saw the pics of the starter that was posted I compared them to the starter on my crew cab dually w/454 and it looks the same to me.
