Stock motor with vortec's... worth it?

OK last week thursday my engine took a shit (either the crank or a connecting rod broke havnt pulled it out yet). I getting a orignal ty engine with 60k from another board member. I dont have the money yet to go through my motor. i wan to use a new block and might need a crank anyway. the motor in the truck now has been rebuilt 3 times and is .062 over i dont want to go any bigger. hopefully the 4bolt main caps are still good, and the pistons they were expensive. but i will start rebuilding another motor sometimes next year as long as this new one runs great. all the normal stuff nother exotic.

The engine in my truck now has 97' vortec's . New valves 2.02 1.60. new seals, guide plates etc., springs for upto .650 lift and i ported them my self just a clean up around the seats, gasket matching, etc..

will it be worth it to put these on before putting the "new to me" engine in?

or just put it in as is?

New gaskets ofcourse and im going to use the head studs from the motor that blew up (3 times should be fine)...
all opinions welcomed

I can't confirm it but I have been told that stock Vortec's are good for 20 H.P., with your clean up / port match and larger valves maybe 25 to 30 H.P., plus the better chamber!

DO IT.

I would try putting them on a stock motor. If my original motor was still good I was going to use them on mine. The beside the additional air flow, the vortec are a lot less detonation resisitant, that is a big plus vs the stock LB4's.

i put vortecs on a stock motor and it went boom. i was monitoring zero - 2 knock retard in a conservative tune. wasn't sure what the previous owners did though. i put in a few new valves (pistons floated when the rods lost their desire to be inside the block), lapped em' and put them back on a built engine. the stock+vortec setup lasted 2 months but thats how long it takes to leisurely gather engine parts so at least the timing was good.

there was an immediate difference on the stock motor both in power and driveability with the v heads.

I might HAVE to put them on. my lower intake is modded for vortecs already i dont think it will sit flush on LB4 heads. this week i have finals at school so if not this week then next i will pull the old motor out (lots of pics will be posted of what broke and maybe an explaination)... and ill try it but as of right now im going to put them on..... the way i look at it is IT CANT HURT!
