Stock ty motor,how to identify?

Here is the deal,I bought this ty and found it had a new motor put into this thing at around 89,000 miles in 2001 and it now has 129,000...The newer block is blue with the blow-out style freeze plugs...Im having a local guy help here in Sarasota tuning it and he keeps saying "I think it isnt the right motor and they used a stock non turbo block" this is because another guy up there has one running perfect and is stock minus the converter in his, its a bigger sthal which makes it come out of the holes harder...

I say there is NO WAY it would have lasted this long and id never be able to put the 15+ psi threw it that im doing now? It was running slower than his by far but we are tuning this thing and it now seems WAY faster since Ive done these things

New battery, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor,IAC,both PCV valves, fuel filter,K&N air filter, both exhaust manifold gaskets done, new 3 inch exhaust with bullit stainless muffler, throttle body taken off and all cleaned, all vacuum lines good and all check valves proper,FP set at 45 with line off...P.S it still idles like crap :)..

So what is different from stock blocks to ty blocks and why would it not have lasted?

Also this weekend spoolingturbo6 is adding the ostrich, walbro 255,3 bar map and tuning it and im guessing mine will be faster than the guys stocker..

The biggest Changes were the main caps, pistons, intake, exhaust manifolds. If you do a search you will find it.

Ironic, I just got my auth. code for my datamaster and will be dialing my Ty in today in Sarasota. Not tuning per say but setting boost through the truboost and hopefully confirming all is good!

Re: Stock ty motor, how to identify?

All the block were the same there were no difference between the turbo blocks and also the stock NA motors.

The differences were the main caps (nodular), piston, Rods(supposoly). Intakes, exhaust manifolds, turbo, injectors, regulator, injectors, and that crap. the heads block and crank were NA stuff.

The Exhaust manifolds do not need gaskets becasue they came from the factory machined and made a seal with out using gaskets.

Re: Stock ty motor, how to identify?

stock ones didn't have exhaust manifold gaskets - what did you use?

someone added them before,i got them from autozone and used them,my friend said they ussually machine them and reinstall them but we used gaskets with rtv and its done and works..

get a borescope and look into the cylinders at the pistons. and you'll be 100% sure.

Re: Stock ty motor, how to identify?

tommynos,

Are you guys installing parts Today? It would be cooI to check yout Ty out.

<threadjack> I installed a chip from RPM and was knocking even under light acceleration. I reinstalled my stock 2 bar and stock chip and it still is knocking a little. Maybe it is my new "ticking" solenoid? Who knows. I feel like my truck is almost right there. I still haven't done a boost run in it since the new motor :(.
