Pick a short race and besure to launch wiht some boost and he'll be on problem.. from a roll though he'll get you.

Now do you know the difference between the stock upper and lower pullies vs a set of aftermarket pullies? In some cases, if you don't know what you're looking for, you want be able to tell an aftermarket lower pulley from a stock lower pulley. I've known guys to buy used Lightnings that came with bigger lower pullies. So this guy may not even know the truck is modded. Also, keep in mind you CAN'T tell if the blower is ported unless you actually pull it off to check it. A ported blower can yeld 2lb of boost more than stock. The boost by pass being unpluged can yeld almost 1lb of boost by it's self. I'm not sure how much a ported upper intake will net you but I'm sure it helps. Those are the things thats you really need to watch for and not junk like CAI kits and exhaust. Thats stuff will maybe add 5rwhp at best unless it's a more modded Lightning. A pulley swap can add as much as 100hp. Now an electric fan swap is worth about 15hp on one of these trucks but You should be able to spot it along with an aftermarket heat exchanger etc.
Second of all, not all Gen2 Lightnings are created equal! The 99-2000's are rated at around 360bhp while the 01-04' are around 380bhp. Also, the 99-00's came with something like 3:42 gears and a 80mm MAF while the 01-04's came with 3:73's and a 90mm MAF. A stock 99-00Lightning can do mid 14's I think while the rest can dip into the high 13's...although I've yet to see a stock L do it.
Anyways, just go race the guy and let us know about it

My old TOTALLY 100% stock (from tires to air box) 2000 Lightning ran 13.3 at cecil in Maryland with my 300+ pound ass behind the wheel. It was a bit of a freak. It was colder the day I ran and that helps them a lot. Just fyi so you know that there are some freaks out there.

the first few times that I ran lightnings I had an intake, exhaust, chip, and aux. cooler. I was running against guys who claimed they had a lot done and the fastest claimed he ran a 12.5. I took him from a roll up to 115, the other guys were all from a dig and it was pretty even the whole way through. Those trucks can launch pretty damn well with good tires!! My ty only ran a 14.2 at the track when I had that setup :dunno:

I beat a lightning with my almost stock sy before i knew how to launch. Then the guy traded it for an 04 cobra. I learned how to launch by then and beat that too. We went to the track and I was .1 faster all day long. :tup:
