For anybody thats had your truck stolen. How do you believe it was taken, or if you know how:

1. It was stolen with the keys.

2. They ripped the left side of the steering column.

3. They towed it.

Seems like more and more are being stolen. I'm sure they are then stripped and parted out.

From my experience the best security would be to get a steering column lock/guard. Next would be a club, alarm, kill switch. Of course, if they have the keys or tow it, its next to impossible to stop.

Everybodys got to be careful with these trucks. I hate to see our numbers diminishing just because of thieves.

Re: Stolen SYTY poll...

I would think the steering column would be the most common way, not hard to steal that way

Hey Psmv Chaser, I use a custom made steering column collar. Its chrome for greater visibility, and a hidden kill switch. It also helps that most people think it is a jimmy with a kit. I try to keep a poker face. I've had cars stolen with "top of line alarms". I swear by the good old hidden kill switch.

Hidden kill switches are def. a good deal. They get the engine to turn over but it does not fire. They think it is out of gas or a POS and move on. I did one back in the day for a friend moving to Boston. Sure enough they break into and attempt to steal the car but it would not start and they left but took the radio. The car was repaired and then they came back with a flat bed and took the whole car. Friends and neighbors thought that the owner had called a tow truck to get the car repaired and never gave it a second thought. Considering where the economy is going, I think that stolen cars will become more prevalent. I try not to let the Sy or the TT Supra out of my sight when I have them out (which hasn't been too much for either lately)

Re: Stolen SYTY poll...

Mine was taken from a locked, fenced yard. They cut the chain or padlock off the gate and even kept that as well. My Typhoon was locked and there was no sign of broken glass or a fuss in the snow covering the ground where the truck had been parked, so I assumed they knew exactly how to quickly get in. Don't know for sure, but I think they probably tore up the column to take it. I am still sick over losing this thing and don't expect to ever learn of it's fate. Mine was stolen 2-1-08
This was my second stolen vehicle. I will shoot the next thief if I am lucky enough to catch him in the act and worry about the consequences later.

Re: Stolen SYTY poll...

if i have another person i can steal a s-10 etc in 5-10 sec. especially bc its so easy to jump a starter in these just need a screw driver. i can get around an alarm no problem unless it is super sensitive bc my friends one a couple of shop so it makes it easy to learn lil things.

I voted for Amyc, since her truck was stolen a few years ago right by me. They found plastic pieces from the column on the driveway where it was parked.

Hard to beat a kill switch or hidden circuit switch to the ECU. Course many are towed when stolen.
Years ago when I drove my original I would pull the ECM B fuse and had a battery switch in the wheelwell for the ground. One night I came out of class and three "dudes" in a 5.0 were watching me. I put the key in, walked around, the fuse, started it and left. They followed. I lost them once it came down to light to light combat. They couldn't make the turn around exit and I went into a sub to a friends house. Not long after that the "dudes" at Milan followed me and tried to get me to pull over with the waving of a gun. I stopped driving it after that. Even the others I got now I rarely drive.
Its a shame we live in a country where nothing is really that safe. I got no problem putting a clip through a car theives head and disposing of their remains. Too bad its not legal.

Re: Stolen SYTY poll...

A few years ago mine almost got stolen from my garage. I was gone and some people I let use my place earlier to work on thier wrx's knew what was in there.

I got home and my syclone was right infront of my garage door when I opened it. They did get my bowtie motor I just built along with all my airbrush/ painting equipment, all my snap-on tools, miller tig, ect. All said and done they took me for almost a 150k cocksuckers.

I now have a security system and two real friendly dogs. I have yet to find any of my stuff.

Live and learn

Many people I've known well for years, Have no clue I own all these trucks. Yet surprisenly soo many locals know 3 things: "You still got that Typhoon/Syclone?, That I loooovvvveee the truck, and I hardly ever drive/talk about the Typhoons. It has/could be a theft deterent, bieng there could be a witness/hear say somehow, Yet I'm still paranoid. Yes, it's sad that we can't enjoy our trucks w/out fear of theft (it's on my mind everytime I drive the Ty) but just keep a watchful eye, keep the place of storage very private, and quickly educate the people you know on the situation of these trucks, and to maybe help keep an eye out for you. I'm very sorry to all that has had thier trucks stolen, I always hate to see/hear bad things happen to fellow owners of one of the rare GM S10 trucks. Good luck to you all, and sorry for the long post.

You know,on a Ty you could always just unhook the fuel pump relay, pull the ecmb fuse, take the coil wire with you,put it on jackstands with no wheels, remove the chip, disconnect the battery, take the steering wheel off, disconnect the shifter linkage, put it behind a hidden wall in your garage full of vicious pit bulls, and prolly never have to worry aboot it ever getting stolen.

Re: Stolen SYTY poll...

take the battery out bc they even stole that from me too lol. steering wheel u can take but they brought one to steal my friends 89 blazer in cleveland. then he put a column lock on his 93 one and a el cheapo lock and they cut or broke it still stole the truck. i told him "why didnt u get a nice master lock ya idiot!!!" he said"well i didnt think they will take it with the column lock." when ur a thief ur a great/good thief u can pick out those lil things. when they want something they will get it somehow. I told him get a damn alarm for 100-200 for a lil better prevention atleast u can possibly here somethin and save urself a 1000-5000 plus all ur crap u add on tooo. now pulls fuse, fuel pump, kill switch, column lock and alarmed garage. I dont understand people

Anybody running this: www.neverstolen.com (If you are, PM me...don't make it public. If you "know" of someone running it, you can post here with few details)

I'd hate to start hacking at wiring in these trucks (they are professionally installed), but I think this thing comes with a guarantee. Was featured in GMHTP about 2 years ago.
