Street racing or Drag strip

well on the 4th of july we had pretty much what your talking about. it was a 12hour test and tune..... 6pm till 6am. there was optional grudge matches. you just had to get behind the car you wanted, and tell the anouncer. then the anouncer would turn off the board, and tell everyone how much money was at stake. no one did a tech at all. guys were runnin with no shirts. lol then there was a $500 bikini contest, that turned into a full on porno. these two black chicks stripped down to absolutely nothing, and were shaking that ass while the DJ was playing some booty music. did i mention there was a real DJ with a stage and serious sound system? the price to race was only $20, and there was a $500 cash prize to the whore that took off her clothes and showed us her fuzzy spot. i would do this every weekend if i could.

And if you do a food stand, have hot chicks work the counter. That always helps.

These trucks are cursed
one thing id like to see, is a seperate track or seperate race night for cars that run higher than 13.99... it gets old having to listen to a bunch of rice burners with loud exhausts bumping in the stage lanes, just so they can run 16s... or have to wait for some guy to trash his moms minivan...

second, eliminate racing cards, not all tracks do this, but limiting people to 4 runs is bullshit... you pay $20 you should be able to race as many times as you want.

i also agree on lightening up some of the racing rules... cages etc... i dont think a helmet should be a requirement unless your faster than 12.50...

make room to go around the burn out box, and give us time to spool!!!!

i think the idea of a club is a good idea but i dont think youd be able to serve alcohol at the club, otherwise youd have to give breathalizer tests to the racers... cause you know some jackass would get loaded and go try to race. but with no alcohol at the club i doubt anyone would go.

maybe a hooters/sports bar type place that over looks the track, that would still be open on non drag racing nights, so they wouldnt need to charge 5 bucks for a burger on race nights... either way youd still run into the alcohol problem.

just some of my ideas/gripes.

Racetracks...

Racetracks...

First of all, I would have MORE of them. The nearest track to me is about 40 miles, but it's only a grimy 1/8th mile. The nearest 1/4 mile is Cordova, over 120 miles, or Wentzville, Missouri, well over 200 miles. So all of the racing between here (Central Illinois) and Quincy (Western Illinois) is on the street.

Secondly, ditch the cage. I can see (almost) driveshaft loops, but not cages. There are 12-second showroom-stock cars that don't have cages...I think it's darn silly to require it. I understand insurance and stuff, but sheesh.

The alcohol issue has been talked to with an insurance company. Resolutions are in the works on my end. I am thinking colored arm bands for racers and when you race you get a lil breathalizer tube that you have to use all night before you race. If you lose it you pay again. Simple as that.

im all for streetracing.

id much rather go out and streetrace than goto the track.

1. i dont have to pay to go streetrace
2. i dont have to wait in long staging lanes while joe honda pulls 16s
3. i dont have to wait for certain test and tune nights when i can go race
4. i dont get yelled at on the street cause im not wearing a helmet
5. i dont have to wear jeans
6. i dont have to wait for the track crew to clean up the oil that the mustang just threw all over the track and watch my minutes burn away and wonder if i can get another run in
7. i dont get as much junkmail since im not filling out any slips
8. i can ice down my IC all i want without have the track crew back me off the staging lane cause im pouring water all over the place
9. i dont have to write a stupid fucking number on my window and have to wash it back off before it burns into the window and doenst come off
10. i dont have rules telling me that i need certain safety equipment to run in diffrent classes

I see the track as a test and tune platform only. Get the truck running great then go out on the street and level the competition. Why do i need to go back to the track countless times to watch myself endlessely beat my truck and pull off the same number each time? Once its dialed in, I know what I run, so why do I need to go back over and over?

i find streetracing more exhilarating in which I sometimes have no idea what im pulling up next to and dont know what the outcome will be. I think theres more of a driving skill factor involved that you just dont get on the track.... theres no burnout box, theres no VHT, theres no pre-stage. You either know what the hell your doing and how to drive your car/truck, or your left behind and you just lost another race.

I've beaten, and I've been beaten. But you'll will never hear me say "I only race at the track." F that.

Obviously, I do know the limitations of myself and my truck, so there are times to race and times to back off. I know the concequences and ive seen the results of streetracing accidents, its nothing i havent heard or read before in other peoples preaching in why street racing is bad.

Not to say I dont enjoy myself when going to a track, because I do, but I dont go out of my way to go unless ive got new parts installed on the truck.

Just my opinion on the matter.

OK here goes

OK here goes

For whomever thought of this subject. Bring a copy of this post to the NATs. I owe you a beer.

This is a great subject. Here are some things we are doing here in Texas at a local strip.

1) car must be street driven and inspected
2) NO SLICKS
3) Helmets for all
4) no cage or fire jacket unless your in deep into the 10's or hi 9's
5) Cops on hands for fight prevention and safety. WAGERS are perfectly ok. THey will look the other way.
6) Tech inspection to make sure no one is dangerously stupid. Hey I dont want to get hurt becuase someone else is a dumb ass
7) NO tree, Green only controlled by starting line personel. This way the green is sporadic like a street race.
8) No alcohol
9) Cheap admission I cant remember what it is but its really cheap.
10) NHRA rules to do not apply instead you sign a liability waiver
11) all boards and displays turned off with individual slips

Extra ideas

1) rather than give street racers tickets give them a card for one time free admission (this is in effect in some areas)
2) You have to get greater support from Johny Law, the track and the community

You have to keep it cheep and fun. Unfortunately you do have to have the cops do some off the record activity. You have to be able to bet and run for money but at the sime time you need them to stop any fights or gun pointing.

I was at a street race a long time ago in Garland TX, Some guy ran for big money he didnt have. He and his car got an ass full of lead from some punk with an automatic. That was the second time things went really bad for me at a street race. Ever since, Ive avoided them.

Thanks for the offer on the beer. I wont be at the NATS though. Alcohol will be at my strip but watched very closely. I need to have alcohol for the spectators.

I FORGOT TO ADD

1) Im an airline pilot, an offense like this could cost me that 6 figure income that I have worked so hard at getting.

2) My ass is tight, I like having a nice tight virgin ass. I really dont want to end up in Dallas Co. for a night or two. I have no doubt someone else would like to have a nice tight ass. You get thrown in the slammer here for street racing, no "ifs ands or buts"

3) Refer to reason 2

If we had more events in central FL like Pittman just desribed, i'll be probably more inclined to *maybe* go to those types of events more often.... but i still dont think it replaces steetracing...

Orlando Speed World (OSW) has held a few open agenda Legal Streetracing events. They open the doors at 10:30pm, race till 2am. No slips, no times. Just heads up racing. Not sure if they got teched. As far as i know, it only lasted 3-4 times.

Again, the wait period to go 1 run in is not worth the time to load up on gas, drive to the track, stand around, get a run in... stand around more... run again..... yah. By that time, I could have have a bunch of kills at the end of the night with no time slips as well

In the last 2 monthes I have made almost $1500 street racing. That pretty much sums it all up.

I really dont think our thing is different from street racing. I mean thats kinda the point.

They used not to tech too heavy. However, as soon as the sun goes down all the dumbasses grab thier keys. This ruins it for all of us. Some stupid kid thought is stang would wheelie if he put two donut spares on the front. Also seen some "home made" nitrous kits that looked pretty f'ed up

marlboro ty, if the cops looked the otherway on betting then why woudltn you still maek your money?

I dont really understand what your asking. But if your asking about cops then I would have to say as long as you do the racing in chicago and not the burbs you are pretty safe. We have had cops bet on the races themselves. It is all about how it is ran and organized. Not a big crowd, only a couple of cars, do the race then leave. You do not hang out on the race road.

the question is which you prefer and why. You made $1500 street racing. Betting was already brought up. Have you read the whole thread? the question was reguarding what you like and why and what you dont like and why and you didnt post either... You just posted that you made $1500.

I was stating that that is why I like street racing. I make decent money. I dont make that money at the track. We have 2 tracks here that do street racing programs. But we have problems of people who dont belong in the tower up there getting peoples times. We have people who sit with stopwatches and try to get your time. The one track GLD doesnt hook worth shit and the other one US41 is a 2 hours drive. I like street racing for the money. If the money was at the track then I would probablly go that route.

hey keith... great thread! lots of good points i hadnt thought of, are being mentioned... but i have to ask...

uhhh if you do plan on building this utopia race track... where would you plan on putting it? no offense, but i dont really think 29 palms would be an ideal location... i would think youd get the most people, in a location thats close to major cities, easy to get to, low elevation (palmdale sucks ass!!!!) and somewhere that doesnt get into the hundreds on summer days...

one other thing... if your track is gonna sell race gas, make it available all the time!
