Just noticed an issue today driving around on errands. When I start the truck the voltage is around 8-10 volts and it just sits there for a minute or two. It idles a little rough but seems to run fine. I get a little flicker when turning the headlamps on but no drop. After a short time it jumps up to normal almost instantly and everything is peachy. Through searches I learned that the probable cause is bad ground or alternator. Grounds seem fine and alt. passed the test at local O'Reilly's. Not sure if that means much but when the gauge jumps to normal everything seems perfect.
I also noticed that occasionally, not often, it'll idle around 1500 or so at start-up but eventually finds it's way back down to 800 or so. It's done this before I had the voltage issue, Could they be related? I haven't pulled codes yet but the occasional check engine light I am sure is for various voltage drop issues.
I'll check the codes tonight to be certain, just thought I'd get a head start on what to look for when I have the time to mess with it. It doesn't seem to be a bad connection anywhere because it's everytime I start it and consistant in the length of time it takes to jump back to normal.
