Yeah unfortunately I think this may be the case. It's that hoarder mentality. The amount of work necessary to get that truck anywhere near his 25K asking price is staggering.
My suggestion: Go there with 5K in cash (still more than it's worth, as I doubt it runs), and with your son. Maybe even bring along a few listings of how much these trucks are going for in good running condition. Offer him the 5 and tell him flat out this is a project for you and your son to bond over. Try to tug on his heart strings about it, could work especially well if he has a wife. It might not work, but if your serious about this truck, then it's worth a shot.

I have had simiilar situations throughout the years. Unfortunately there is something in these type of folks minds that will NOT let them allow somone else to do something that they cannot or will not do... Maintain and enjoy a rare or sought after vehicle. I beleive that they get a "kick" out of having something people want and will likely NEVER let it go. The statement made about "waiting for the guy to kick the bucket" has some merit but seems I have always been a little late because someone that personally knows the guy is already "waiting". I have adopted the attitude that if they won't let it go I move on to the next one. One good example that has happened lately is an old guy nearby with an 86 GN with 3X,XXX original miles going to pot. I heard of the car and went to check it out. He has owned the car since 1992 and is getting around to "fixing" it up. After speaking with the guy several times it is obvious he will NEVER sell it. Just letting it rust away! He did spray some primer on the rust bubbles I showed him on the roof and around the windows though. Good Luck! I hope it is 2500. That would be a nice project!!

i hate when ppl just hold on to a classic car/truck they will never do anything with, but wont let it go to someone who will. seen this many times, car sits, rots, till owner dies and family has to sell it to someone for scrap to take care of bills ect, b/c its to far gone to do anything with. when it could have been sold years earlier and really helped their family and save the car/truck.

well here is the rest of the story i went to see the truck today iput $500 in my pocker as a deposit. the truck is in a scrap yard on the reservation. so i pull up walk in the gate walk past the sy i look but dont walk up to it. a guy comes to me tells me to sign in at the office so i go in the office and ask the guy at the desk about the sy he says its not for sale. i asked if i could talk to the owner he says he doesent know who owns it. i ask if he know who would then another guy walks up. so that guy says the same not for sale so i respectivly ask why he tells me that his son wrecked it years ago and he told his grandson that when he grewup they would fix it up and so far his grandson never grew up. he also added that his son was offered $25000 and would not sell it so ther was no way i could possiblie eaven make an offer.ill tell ya its hard to buy something thats not for sale. as i was leaving i asked if i could just loock he said no so no vin#. so im thinking i may just go back next year and every year till he throws me out , or to see it fixed up or he sells. i can only imagine what it would be worth all fixed up. you should have walked up to it really fast just to getthe last 4 and thats all hes obviously not going to sell it.
