Well monday night I got into a wreck with my syclone. A deer ran out in front of me and i swerved to miss it and hit a pole. I think that it is totaled. I just talked to the insurance compay and they said they did not know if they could pay it off since it is a 91. What are most people getting for there trucks from the insurance? I think that i am going to get screwed.

Damn sucks to hear that man. At least you're ok. A syclone is replaceable, a human life isn't. Good luck with insurance.

Very true... if you hit the deer, its a NAF (not at fault). Swerve to miss it, its 100% at fault.

Sorry for your loss... glad you're still up & typing.

I went thru the insurance thing when my first Ty was drowned in a flood. They tried to offer me 'book value' of $12k or something. I insisted on a market value assessment. They searched and could not find a 'comp' (same vehicle sold recently in my geographic area), and eventually derived market value from......... the syty.org classifieds!

I got $17k for a 135k mile Ty (in perfect condition, although that was impossible to tell with it covered in mud and mold an inch thick growing on the leather).

This was in 1998. And, with 100's of claims to deal with in my area, they may have rolled over a little easier than normal.

I suggest insisting on a 'market value assessment'. HTH, and sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you're OK.

get it appraised. I got nearly 17k for my Ty with all the goodies. Then I bought it back for 1,100 dollars :D

Hell, I could sell the seats and panels and some little stuff to pay off what I paid to get it back and still have all the goodies.

yep, Insurance agency sent out an appraiser to check it out. What also helps is having all the receipts and stuff that you have added into the truck. Also a pretty picture of the truck what it looked like before.

I hit a deer on Harlem and 71st in Chicago in an industrial park. I didn't think twice but to lock up the brakes (Good 'ol Ty ABS, NUFF said) and kept my lane and smashed the deer. When the insurance adjuster came out, he was pretty fair and looked at receipts I had in it, and a few other things, and I got paid right away.

Get a quote for repair from a body shop YOU KNOW, and show them that when the adjuster comes :p

ok well it is final the syclone is totaled! I got fucked and was not allowed to buy it back, they gave me 15500 for it so i went and leased a new GTP. I will probably get a syclone agian one day but i it just not very sutting for me at this time anymore. But I do have a few left overs for sale that i managed to get off of it before it was hauled off. I have a 3 pillar pod, and the new green chip with the gauge style chip for sale if some one wants it let me know?
Thanks
James

Oh my god!!!

My condolences, and I agree with Seth I really hate to see all those Hi Po 11 second parts go to the junkyard! Astonishing..

PS: How is it not possible to get your own vehicle back? I will NEVER let someone take MY own vehicle from me, I have the title; they don't!!! How is it possible for them to forcibly take ownership of it? I'm confused.

James........did you OWN the truck? Or were you still paying on a bank note or something? I've seen a lot of people lose their vehicle due to the fact that they were still paying on a note. Another reason you may not have been able to buy it back is if there is a clause in your insurance contract. A lot of companies have agreements with salvage yards, and the business agreement may be worth more to them in the long run than the extra money you'd be willing to pay for your truck at the time.

If you OWNED the truck and there was no clause in your insurance contract, then there is no reason why you should not be offered to buy the truck back. I'm no insurance adjuster, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I'd fight them if I owned the truck. Course, I'da chained myself to the truck when they told me I couldn't buy it back to begin with.

Ditto on what Mike Hood said...

If you owned the truck free and clear (no leins) then it was YOUR truck and the ins does NOT own it until you turn the title over to them so they have NO right to take it (they will lead you to believe otherwise).

If their was a lein on it then it gets more complicated. Ive been around similar situations and even if their is a lein on it then that MUST be paid before the lein holder will release the title. So, did the ins cut you a check or did they cut he bank a check and then the bank gave them the title? Either way that truck is owned by whoever has the title.

Lemme put it this way... The ins company will lead you to believe that they have every right to take the vehicle and do with it as they please. They wont come right out and tell you this because they would be lieing but they will give you that impression because 99% of the ppl out there dont know any better. Same thing happened when my buds intrepid burned to the ground in my driveway.. His ins sent a roll back twice to come and pick it up and I wouldnt let them have it until I got in writing they would repair my driveway. They tried to strong arm me at first by saying that it was "their vehicle, blah, blah..." but backed off when I laughed and told the hag on the phone that no its NOT your vehicle as you dont have the title and its sitting on private property. To make a long story short they got my permission to take the car when I got in writing their promise to fix my driveway.

The one thing that is hit and miss, however, is being able to buy the vehicle back. Some ins companies have contracts with salvage yards and ALL their totalled vehicles get sent there no matter what. If thats the case your kinda screwed if the ins has the title unless you can buy it off the salvage yard (which prolly wont be cheap).

My point is that if you have or can get the title then the truck is still YOURS unless there is some kind of clause(sp?) in your ins policy. Ive never heard of such thing but its been a while since Ive went through totalling a vehicle so things could have changed by now. IMO its worth checking into if you want your truck back. I know I would just cause I hate ins companies and am a stubborn/unruly SOB when it comes to someone taking my stuff.
