TCC shudder that isnt... need some help

Had a new torque converter installed because the Ty was violently shuddering under TCC lockup with moderate load. Well this did not solve the problem. Any ideas here? it is behaving exactly like a bad TCC... Only shudders when TCC is locked and you try to moderately accelerate. Lightly tap brake while accelerating and the shudder stops. I should note that the problem initially appeared after a head gasket change, and since then the Ty is stumbling a little. Related problems or coincidence? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

Is it a shudder or a mise? When the converter locks up at lower speeds it loads the engine. Check for a cracked plug or wire problem, could be this since heads have been off.

Exactly, during tuning i loged a 9.30:1 afr right after the shift (1-2)
I removed a lot of fuel in there and the shudder was gone. Take a look at your AFR.
What are your mods
If youre stock then its a miss. Change spark plugs , wires and tune it

out of curiosity, what's the testing procedure w/guage to indicate real TCC shudder?

I was wondering the same about obtaining a pressure reading from the transmission. Anyone know how this is accomplished? I tried a search but did not find anything.

I've got a purpose-built gauge on the trans pressure test port now w/a 10' hose leading into the cab for TV setup. Maybe available here:
http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/index.shtml

These folks built my stage IV hartman trans and ran it on a tranny dyno as well as a test car. Also sold me the gauge/line to check tv setup after install. call them and tell them what you need. I think it was under $50 or so.

A real tc would occur when the tranny pressure is low , so you got to read a tranny manual. Everything is in there. You can also find the info in the syty service manual. If you cant someone could email this to you. I wouls , but im out of town and i cant do it till the weekend comes

thanks, i've got all the specs as well as my transmissions actual numbers, just didn't know that tc shudder is a symptom of low line pressure.
