The Syclone/Typhoon Community

Some of you may remember me, others may not. It makes little difference. It has been over a year and a half now since I sold my trouble-ridden yet impeccably clean Typhoon off and more or less left this community. I have spent some time in the seat of a Nissan Sil-80 and most recently a 2005 Pontiac GTO, and it is starting to dawn on me how incredible this community is.

I spent many a night cursing my truck up and down, what with damaged parts and shoddy engine rebuilds, but behind me I had this community, always willing to answer technical questions, even if i were the thousandth person to ask, and always giving a resounding thumbs up when I would put up new pictures, even though we have seen thousands of black Typhoons before.

And then, NASTE. These guys recently spurred me to write up this post. I have kept in constant touch and made pretty darn good friends with guys like Eric Manfra, Morgan and Dennis Kaese to name a few. And a few weeks ago I was at the Englishtown Swap Meet, as usual for me, and out of the blue Morgan gives me a NASTE T-Shirt. It doesn't sound like much, but go join a 240SX or GTO forum and see if people will extend their kindness far after you sell that vehicle. It will never happen.

I think if I ever get the notion to buy another Syclone or Typhoon, undoubtedly a large chunk will come from knowing that I will have a forum and community behind me that is unrivaled in terms of comraderie, activity, and an overwhelming lack of egocentric asses who would rather be your competition than offer help.

So it has been a good long while, but Thank You for leaving me with a great impression of what a car community should be.

Re: The Syclone/Typhoon Community

This community is the best one I've ever seen as well. The few that I have met are a great help and the nicest you will meet. I am still trying to convince my wife to go to syty nats next year. I keep telling her that this community is different than the rest, and it will be much different from the many other car shows I have drug her to in the past. I thought about selling my Ty as well when it started giving me troubles. This board is one of the reasons I decided to keep it.

Re: The Syclone/Typhoon Community

I will say that I have been very happy with the helpful members of this forum also. I've never been a member on a message board before and I had nothing to compare to. I have learned so much with the help of this site and members. I have attended two different wrench sessions and both occasions we ended up working only on my truck. I bring the parts and everyone chips in to help get 'er done. I went to Rockford Racecraft and Guy ran a DM run with me and we talked about "where to start modding" for an hour or so and then he would not accept any money for the DM run or helpful info. I am heading to a get together this weekend with fellow members to the GLG'05 (MW forum). So I say thank you to all who have helped me on the site or under my truck.

Yup, once syty, always syty. I made this observation a long time ago myself. Talking to friends and family who are on other car "communties", you will be VERY hard pressed to match what we have here  .

Re: The Syclone/Typhoon Community

i must agree with mike!

all the socal syty guys i've met have been more than cool as well as helpful. you really dont find that much in other communities. a friend of mine was part of some LS1 group, and like earlier stated, everyone always acted like it was a competition. if someone had a faster car they acted like they were better than you... stupid.

usually if i see a post on here about someone having a 14 second truck, theres plenty of posts after it, of people trying to encourage that person to improve their truck, and offering help.

god knows i've gone to do simple maintenance repairs and had anything and everything go wrong. ill run inside and post a 'please help' thread, and within minutes theres a response and i end up fixing my problems. gotta love it!

thanks all!

PS kinda funny that Mike made this post, i just dug up an old thread from 02 where mike helped me out with a large hi res outline sy logo, and i asked mike are you still out there?? .

Re: The Syclone/Typhoon Community

Another plus is having limited production trucks. It keeps the community small, so people get to know each other better:2cents:

Re: The Syclone/Typhoon Community

Couldn't agree with you more Mike. This community rules. In every way. Especially since it's so small. Even though I haven't been as "involved" lately as I used to be, I still feel at home here. This community is a big part of the reason I'll never sell my truck.
Cheers to syty.net and it's inhabitants!

I agree with everyone here. I am a member of a few local racing forums and you wanna talk about drama.....and i have to see htese people every weekend or theres a chance. It has made me realize what a truly awsome boarrd and community this really is. This is why I changed my name to TYTIL I DIE. Sure we have our guys hwo are all attitude but IM sure that when it comes down to it we pretty much all are here for each other and ready to help out. I know htat if some stranger showed up on my doorstep I would not let him in. Now, if he was driving a SYTY and needed a place to crap, my toilet would be his/her toilet. I have met many SYTYers around my area and not all of them are cool but hte ones that are memebers of htis board are and reall y do care.

Got to agree with everything said so far. I've never met a SyTyer who was a jerk in person. All of the SyTy owners that I've met in the midwest have made my stay in Michigan worthwhile.

Re: The Syclone/Typhoon Community

I would have sold my truck a long time ago if it weren't for this place (and the mailing list from 'back in the day').

I was talking to my folks about selling my truck and my mom asked if I would still go to the Nats if I sold my truck...Abso-freaking-lutely. Too many people here that I consider friends.
