Timing

Where is the indicator mark on our trucks? I looked all over for it and I can't find it. Also, where should I disconnect the tan wire for the ETC? I looked for it in the engine compartment and can't find it. I can see it under my carpet in the passenger compartment, but I don't know if there is a plug for it or whether I have to cut it. If any of you could help me, it would be greatly apprectiated.

I found this image somewhere on the web, I can't remember where.

It's looking down in front of the engine behind the radiator.

OK, I have found everything but the bolt to loosen the distributor. I have the wrenches, but I don't know where too look (feel) for the bolt. Also, when I loosen it, I should only need to loosen it about 1/4-1/2 turn and then rotate the distributor, Right?

Yes, also put some white out in the timing groove on the balancer to make it easier to see, and if you can get your hand in there, put some white out on the o degree mark on the timing tab also... Before you start the engine, see if you can move the distributor after you loosen the bolt...There are special wrenches to help you loosen/tighten the dist. bolt...

That still doesn't help me with my last question. I'd really like to get this done tonight, but it looks like I might run out of time unless someone can help me soon.

the bolt is right in front of the distributor, hard to get to.you can get it with a open end wrench.

Thanks. TDC is the big groove on the indicator right? The groove I'm talking about is to the right of the three points.

It's easier to reach with a special distributor wrench you can get for a coupke of bucks at any parts store.
