Not true. I can sell it to someone in a state that allows it to be rebuilt.(If there are any. Seems RI might be one) I can wait 5 more years and apply for a 'rebuilders' title in CO. Or apply for a 'specially constructed' title in my home state. Which is the direction I'm going right now because I got confirmation today that the 'junk' title wasn't a mistake. Built-from-parts is basically parting it out in the eyes of the state, but not really. Mostly all the same parts with a few new ones, which it needs anyway. On the upside it may be getting a frame-off resto because of this. Time/money I didn't want to spend, but if they're gonna make me do it anyway... I may apply for the CO title to get it back on it's original VIN in 5 years any how.

you cannot retitle that truck with the GM assigned vin you can get a state issued VIN,
a flood title car is way different from a scrap or junk title car
pretty much every state requires a inspection after a salvage title, and then issues a rebuilt title, easiest way to get truck back on road is assigned VIN from state , just keep every reciept for repairs and have it inspected

It would be an absolute shame a truck that clearly isnt junk needs to be junked out for the sake of red tape and paperwork. That truck is totally repairable and shouldnt be junked or parted out.

You said it. A "shame". Not to worry, it will not be 'junked'. I didn't wait 20yrs to get one of these so I could part it out. F* that! I'll drive it with no tags/reg if I have to. But I don't have to because I can title it 'built from parts' if nothing else.

My cavalier was a rebuilt/salvaged vehicle and it retained the original VIN. All the state did was put an "inspected" sticker in the door jam and issue a reconstructed title. I was able to carry full coverage insurance on it, and never had issues. No idea how a junk title would work.
I can tag and title all the cars I want and carry no insurance on them as long as I don't plan to drive them. It just varies by state.
I wouldn't really worry about using loop holes to title it. They are loop holes, you are not breaking the law. So you can sell it to an out of state friend, and they can get it repaired and titled then sell it back to you... not really illegal. You both paid the taxes on it, just happens to be a loop hole. Does it matter if someone complains about it 15 years from now if your kids want to sell it? Your kids can find another buyer. :2cents:
This would make a great candidate for a complete swap onto a 92/93 Jimmy platform. I mean, it would not have a typhoon VIN, but it could still be enjoyed as one.
