Torque Converter Shutter

Hello,

I was driving my truck the other day when I noticed that between 55-70 if u gave it some gas to pass another vehicle that it would shutter momentarily before it would take off. I am planning on changing out the transmission fluid and see if that helps, if not looks like I am going to be looking for a new torque converter. Can I order a factory replacement through General Motors or an autoparts supplier, and how long should the tc hold up before it really needs to be replaced.

Before you replace anything , take pressure readings. Most of the times its low pressure related.
It might get better with new fluid though.

tc's don't usually just go bad. but once the clutch surface gets burnt from chatter or slipage they are toast ad there's nothing you can do about it.

That being said I can send you a rebuilt stock TC for ~175. and I don't want yours back. putting a used TC on is very dangerous bc you just dont know where it's been and whats inside it. it could destroy your trans if it's full of junk.

also are you sure it's tc chatter and not trans slippage? have to tried it with the tc locked and unlocked to confirm it's the TC?

but then what do I do, just drive it down the road and see if it is still doing it at, I assume.

I know it only does it when you go more then 1/2 throttle between 55 or 60 and 65. If you punch it from a stop and run it up to about 70 it doesn't.

I am away from my truck , helping a friend move, but I should be able to lock the tc up tomorrow and see.

ya see what that does, but you are getting a problem with possibly low line pressure, bc if you go wot the line pressure should be about double what it is cruising around. so I believe that it could happen that way. as always make sure the TV cable is set right.

It helped tremendously. I am still getting a little bit of the above described problem, but now it seems to be about 1/5th what it was, and it doesnt do it everytime you go wot like it used to.
