tranny won't shift till 5000-5500rpm at WOT

like the title says..when I floor it the tranny won't shift till it reach about 5000rpm at 1-2 shift and 5500rpm at 2-3 and wouldn't even shift 3-4 at wot. I already tried adjusting the tv cable many many times but without success, and the tv cable is not broken. is there any way to lower shift points? any help would be very appreciated. tia

only way to change the shift points is to put a different governor in. but if it wont shift 3-4, you probably have bigger problems. are you at 100mph WOT and it won't shift to 4th?

the tranny is brand new i just got it rebuilt with upgraded parts, it does shift 3-4 but i have to lift my feet off the gas pedal a lil bit.

i didn't mention to put a different one in when i did the rebuilt, i have a list of the mods and no governor mods has been done.

Who rebuilt your transmission? You wouldn't be the first person to have a tranny shop swap out the stock valve body and governor on them.

a friend of mine who owns a transmission shop, i know he put a art carr shift kit in

what do you mean i'm screwed? the tranny is doing very good except for the wot shift points

he means there are parts of our trans you DONT want "upgraded" like the servo, valve body, governor, etc. You want to upgrade hard parts maybe and of course the governor would depend on your build, cam and stuff but yeah you need to be able to tell your tranny guy what you want and expect if he's not a syty expert.

I would talk to your friend and see what exactly he upgraded and see if he still has the stuff you can put back in, especially the governor since you say the rest seems fine.

that was a helpful reply, thanks. here's the list of upgraded parts: 4 or 5 planetary rear carrier, thicker sun shell gear, upgraded sprag, 13 vanes front pump, new drums, large ventilated bands, new sets of clutches (with extra ones), corvette 2-4 servos, art carr shift kit, hardened input and output shafts, brand new torque converter. ( ++ everything you have to change when you do rebuilt)

my friend is not a syty expert but he has been building trannys for well over 20 years. he is the only guy i trust about building tranny that will last. and yes he knows i am going to drag race the thing. i'll ask him about the governor on monday.

i would have ordered one from rpm but i kinda dont have 2k$ for shipping

tell him to take the shift kit out, SyTy's dont need them, they just cause problems, and If I remember right the servo's in our trucks are the same as a vette. so he should give you some cash back for the ones you bought

The 700r4 has 093 corvette servo without the damper spring in it for downshifts, a WOT upshift valve in the valvebody, a specific separator plate, a stiffer spring in the line bias lineup, the biggest shift accumulator valve GM makes with a stiffer spring(hard shift), stiff accumulator springs,and a specific governor. At the time, other than police pursuit units, it was the only model to come with BW high energy frictions. Use of any regular frictions will result in poor performance and short life. It even has that in the ATSG manual.
Remember that they are very old now. Only thing worth salvaging is the servo lineup, the governor, and the valvebody w/separator plate.

The 13 vane pump is considered weak. Probably won't cause you any problems, but if you have to tear it back down I'd go back to the 10 vane.

X2... On my old TY, I had no problems with the tranny until I had a shift kit put in. So, 3 rebuilds later we realized that the shift kit could be the problem, so it got yanked and the tranny ran great.

I would pull the transmission out and get rid of the 13 vane pump, undo the art carr shift kit (you can keep the TCC lineup in the pump) and if you have the 5 pinion planetary from the 4L65E, get rid of that too. The 13 vane pump is the case where bigger is not always better, the art shift softens the shift in a SyTy Valvebody (its not a very good shift kit anyways) and the 4L65 planetary is lesser quality of metal.

You should have already had Corvette Servo line up and Sprag.

Assuming he didn't do any other 'tricks', If I had to guess the 13 vane pump is the problem.

update: i just put a iroc-z governor in. everything is now fine and the tranny shifts like a charm at 4500rpm every shift at WOT
