Looking for a Syclone
Hey guys, I've been doing a bunch of research on the boards and there are a few really good builds with the Vortec platform, but I figure I'd document my build here as an additional resource for anyone else looking to build these motors/looking for a comprehensive part list. I will make sure to keep the thread updated w/ pictures along with updating the main post with part numbers.
The only things that will vary with my build vs a SY/TY build is the intake setup since this is going in a second gen. For that step, refer to threads like this one: http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=90393
Status of Build:
- Stock Turbo rebuilt by SportMachines
- Two full sets of turbo manifolds in varying condition
- Associated block fittings for coolant/oil
- 04 Vortec longblock
Goals:
- 15 PSI Peak with the 17c
- 300-350hp Daily Driven Dependable / 93 Octane / Meth injection if required
Where the motors stands currently:
The next stop should be the machine shop for some work:
- Get the Block/Heads hot tanked/cleaned out
- Have the Block/Cylinder head resurface (RA50)
- Have the cylinder bores checked/rehoned, possibly bored +.030 if required
- Have the crank polished
- Have the camshaft bearings replaced
- Turbo manifold surfaces milled flat
Master Parts List: - *Will be updated through the build*
Heads:
- ARP Head Studs - ARP 134-3601 (V8 Set) - Is the general consensus that these are correct even though they are a thousandth off?
- Cometic MLS Head Gaskets - Part Number?
Turbo:
- Stock 17c Turbo - Rebuilt by SportMachines
- Stock manifolds
Block:
- Forged Pistons - Open for suggestions/Would like to drop the compression inline with SY/TY setups
- Stock Crank (Polished)
- Stock Rods - Is it more advisable to use ARP Studs or re-size the rods and use ARP Bolts?
- Melling Select - Part Number?
- Oil Pump Support Bracket - Milodon Chevy Oil Pump Support Brackets 17200
- Timing Chain - COMP Cams 3200
- Main Studs - ARP 233-5601
Cam:
- Open to Suggestions (Balance Shaft Motor)
Valvetrain (Vortec Heads):
- New Valve Seals - Any Suggestions? *Stock Valves*
- LS6 Yellow Beehive Springs - GM 12565313
- Stock Rockers
- Stock Pushrods - Pending cam?
- Stock Valves
Fuel:
- 42/52 lb Injectors
Drivetrain:
- ARP Flywheel Bolts - Part #?
- Upgraded Clutch - Part #?
It's entirely possible I've missed stuff on this list. I'm up for any/all suggestions to get this built up the right way. :tup:
