Un-Cork.... ?

Ty Sellout
When I bought my Ty, the owner had a new motor put in by the dealer, then moved. He said that the dealer "...had something turned down for the break-in, so it could possibly be quicker." I noticed I dont get full 15lbs boost. Is there a way to check to make sure I am getting full performance? What would I check to"turn up"? My Ty runs strong, and I think it's wicked fast, so does everyone I take for a ride. I just want to know if there is a way to un-cork it a little more.

Be very careful. You need accurate guages (the factory boost gauge is is for sh**) and a WB02 with DM or Tuner Pro etc. or you may very well be looking for another "replacement" engine. I also suggest a fuel pressure gauge. Our trucks have knock problems in stock form at 14psi, little less messing with the boost and waste gate adjustments. Also a lot of little things need to be verified, vacume lines, timing etc.

What I would do first, is get Datamaster. http://www.ttspowersystems.com/index.html Right, then go out and log a run, gradually increase to WOT. Have someone watch your boost and see what it is really boosting at. My stock boost gauge never went over the "10" mark. But ran 14.7 psi via an Autometer boost gauge. I'ld bet it is at full boost. If not, you are going to want to check your VAC lines on the turbo itself and make sure they are hooked up properly. The only thing that can turn it down is by hooking the VAC line from the Compressor housing on to the actuator, it will get you 8 psi. What you really are looking to be super careful with is if the dealer put in a replacement motor, they more than likely did not use a true SYTY motor and may have not run properly resulting in looping the VAC system. I hope thats not the case but I wouldn't be very surprised if it was. So lets say that is the case, put it back to where it is supposed to go , then data log and see how it runs. Essentially you are going to be looking at the spark retard box, the more you have the worse off you are. But Ild bet you are making stock boost.

And the WG rod as mentioned above. They could have turned that down too which would make sense, but if they did its probably becasue the motor has higher compression than needed and knocked, or just ran like shit.

Re: Un-Cork.... ?

The dealer probably pulled the boost solenoid connector (or bypassed it) or adjusted the wastegated to be open. Be very careful, their is a good chance the dealer put the wrong motor in with the wrong piston for a stock Ty, so this could have been their fix.
