*UPDATE: Still overheating... *Please help me out*

Hey guys since I changed the stock stat to a 160 I noticed the truck started overheating... So today I decided to replace it for a 180 stat. Well, the problem is still there... I dont kow what I did wrong, but this time I was extra careful trying to do it right and everything went well until I test drove the truck. I have datamaster, but I cant use it right now since I dont have a pass seat and there's no safe place for the laptop during a run :x

It's been a while since I drove the truck and since I used the scantool, but something tells me the truck is overheating. I dunno if I'm crazy, but I remember the temp gauge never being over the 1/4 line... When I start the truck its usually resting over the 100 in the gauge, then it goes halfway between the 100 and the first line when it warms up, and then when I start running the truck it ends up sitting over the first line or 1/4 up from the 100 in the gauge...

I checked everything I could think off and the radiator fan seems to be working ok. This problem is driving me crazy :drinking: and I cant think of anything else I should check. If u guys can help me out and give me some advice I will appreciate it. thnx in advance!

Hook up the computer and read what the ECM is saying how hot things are running....do it in the driveway if you have to.

Did you get all the air out of the system, if you didnt it will overheat because of trapped air. Exactly how did you refill the cooling system??

Yes man I did it "right" I followed the directions at sytyarchives.com and I could see coolant beneath the stat when I put it on.

Well guys,

Today I replaced the fan clutch which was dead... I went for a test drive and noticed the engine temp. needle was moving up again :x , but atleast the truck felt alot stronger. So I got my laptop with datamaster and went for another ride... well engine temps went as high as 207 :x :drinking: and IAT as high as 158 :fist: on a mid-high 80's outside temp. I dont know what else to do... I thought the fan clutch would fix the problem, but its still there. Also when I shut down the truck after a 15+ cruise and try to restart it it gives me problems and I'm assuming its because of the high temps.

I'm willing to try any other ideas, so plz help me out on this one since I cant seem to fix it by myself... I was thinking my radiator maybe clogged or somthing? Is there anyway to test the cooling system of the truck? Plz help me out. Thnx in advance

1. With the engine off Squeeze the lower Rad hose, If you can that bad because the lower hose is suppose to have a spring inside to heep the hose from collapsing causing overheating..


2.With the engine cool off, IE to the point where you can Squeeze the upper radiator hose & feel no pressure, take the Radiator Cap off & look for Bubbles with the engine running at a idle, If you get Bubbles you may have a blown head gasket.

are you having to add water to the radiator? i hope not...also methuselah had a similar problem where the water pump impeller seperated itself from the shaft on the inside of the pump...but that was an edelbrock pump...are you sure the stat is good? maybe you could test it in hot water over the stove...see if it opens at a given temp...i've never tried that but it should work...

edit:

how many miles on the truck? you may have to have the radiator rodded out or replaced like you mentioned...also, your truck shouldn't feel stronger by replacing the fan clutch unless the old one was stuck or siezed...

is it possible to install a thermostat in upside down? that might explain both thermostats f'ing up... just a thought
