Re: v8 swap

thinking about putting a carb v8 in my sy any good ideas

Sell the Sy, buy a regular S-10 to chop up. I had a V8 Sy, and it honestly didn't feel any faster than my Ty. Wasn't pretty to look at under the hood either.

Do what you want and forget what others think about your configuration!

Good luck!

Re: v8 swap

What are your goals in doing it? Do you just not want the electronics? what tranny are you thinking of using? Nothing wrong with carbs, but fuel injection is so nice to have.

Re: v8 swap

My question would be, once you get the V8 mounted and a short intake, add the carb and then a filter on top: are you going to clear the hood? Are you going to run a cowl hood? Nothing wrong with carbs, just take up more room.

Re: v8 swap

By all means it's your truck to do as you please. But what I think you may want to consider is a V8 controlled by the stock ecm. It has been done and would be different and still gives you the V8 you want, and with a little help from some of us here wouldn't be too difficult.

OK, If you really want to do a V8, go for it. You do need to keep it in your mind the performance of these trucks was built on the V6, out there in the real world most people to this day think 1 of 2 things. #1 the truck have a Buick motor in them. #2 the trucks have a Corvette motor in them. You are just going to feed the crowd of group #2. I myself like schooling people with the 4.3 because most don't think they will run like these trucks will.

Being you already have some of the parts to rebuild it, just do it you will be glad you did.:tup::tup:

Was this the truck at the shindig drag race with the BMW turbo and nitrous? I might be interested in the l35s if you go the v8 route.

BMW turbo and nitrous? .

So how did the 4.3 die...And now a carbed v8....

I say its your toy/your money, do what you want. Looks like you already have been. If you asked anyone about spraying a syty you might not even have this problem.

Did you ever spray it? What size of shot? How many times? Did you have a scan tool running to record it as well?

In that pic with the velocity Powerboat, there is a red syclone, is that a Marboro?
