been having an issue on where the truck since the installation of the chip cant go past 10psi. also max knock with 7-8* on wot. Truck is stock with a 3bar 255 fuel pump other than that its pretty much all original. Has new plugs gaped at .28 not sure to gap them at .35 and see how that goes. Truck wont over boost or even come close to max wastegate.

Maybe exhaust is restricted some way or wastegate not hooked up? Fuel pressure is set where?

Re: Velosyty chip boost help

If the knock retard is that high, the chip reduces the wastegate duty cycle. Once you reduce the knock, the boost may come up higher.

Re: Velosyty chip boost help

Have a free flow exhaust and fuel psi is at 43
Wastegate is also hooked up
Just trying to find out a way to reduce the knock

It's just a six

Check where your base timing is set at.
.28-.35" gap is HUGE! Had to say it.:rotf:
.028"gap is fine, leave them there.

Set the timing back with the chip.
Run better gas. Don't want to keep seeing 7-8 KR :2cents:

Cant really think of anything else that can affect the knock

91 octane is low. I would run a Alchy System and run pure Alcohol. 91+105 octane should put you at 95-98 octane. I Would also check your intercooler pump I had similar problems. Also your wastegate stock spring is at 8psi. If you boost solenoid is not working or not connected will limit boost to 8 psi.
Good luck.

Thanks hot wire the pump so I know its on also boost boost solenoid is connected also have started to ruled out false knock since motor mounts are good

Re: Velosyty chip boost help

I assume your using premium gas. Put in a few gallons of good gas (race gas or xylene) to see if it reduces your knock retard. I would be more concerned with your detonation than getting peak boost at this point.

Re: Velosyty chip boost help

Same here already already reduce a lot of knock since I first got the truck want to run low amount of knock without any alky or race gas

Even though you have 'Hot Wired' your pump, check that it is actually running!
Like many, mine seized in the bronze bush and gave the impression it was 'still' OK. Didn't blow the fuse! just fell flat on its face when the IC became heat soaked. Took me a while to figure that one out. It freed off, but I now have a new Bosch Hi flow one to replace it with.

Putting in high octane gas can help differentiate real knock vs false knock. It doesn't mean you need to run it full time but it will help you determine where you need to focus your effort in getting rid of knock retard.

Dude,

A 76 in Santa Monica has race gas at the pump.. Drive down there and fill up the tank and see if your KR goes away or lessens.. In addition... Try a top engine cleaner, look to see what your IAT's are at during normal driving vs. when in boost or making a pull.. If the race gas gets rid of your KR looks like Alky is in your future..:2cents:

How does you truck idle?? Any misses?? Is the ignition system if good standing??

See ya,
