VERY hi voltage

I'm trying to help a friend diagnose his Typhoon problem, and am kinda confused myself.

Truck runs terrible, sooty black smoke, etc.... Diacom shows many codes, and changes each time codes are cleared with the exception of RICH. However, battery voltage shows 19+ to 22+ with a high of 25, even when not running voltage shows the same as mentioned when viewed via Diacom. MV-02 readings are 1150's with IPW at 36 when running.

The battery is fine...... there are no blown fuses.

My guess is the ECM has fried. Has anyone had any occurances like this and if so, am I headed in the right direction? This is a new one on me..... Thanks in advance,

i would verify the voltages with a multimeter to start with...thats alot of volts...the voltage being high even when the truck is off, points to the scantool, unless you have a 24 volt battery installed... is diacom the one that splices between the ecm and harness? maybe replace the o2 sensor with a known good one...weird deal there...

The voltage has been checked via voltmeter and it's normal, both at battery and alternator.

Diacom has a cable that goes directly to the port under the steering wheel/dash.

The weird voltage readings are shown on the scan tool, whether with just key on or running. That is what makes me think the ECM. Thanks for the input.

Do you have a volt meter you can probe into cig. lighter? battery, fuse panel, etc. See if that voltage is same as ECM or diff.

If diff. I am with you on ECM issue, just rip the one out of that red blazer of yours and try it. GRIN. You don't need a daily driver, just a new pair of shoes.

This may not be the issue but something I found on a freinds Sy. All kinds of weird readings and etc that were all caused by missing grounds. If the sensors/ecm isn't grounded well enough or at all you can have some issues!

We got together last night to resolve the problem. Turns out a different ECM fixed it...... the "chip" was fine.

Fortunately it was a simple fix, and I had a spare ECM available.
