vibrations

Well I ran my stock 113k mile sy at norwalk this weekend and came up with a 13.7 with a 1.9 60 ft. On my last run I brake boosted for way too long due to the tree taking longer to start than I expected. My question is that now when I drive my truck to say 50 mph and higher and I start to roll out of the throttle slightly the truck starts to vibrate like there is something wrong with the tranny or torque converter. If I let off all the way the vibration stops, if I accelerate the vibration stops, I was wondering If anyone has had this experience, I tried to explain it as best I can and hopefully I run into someone that owns a syty in the near future that can test drive my truck to tell me whats wrong. Also when I'm going say 60 -70 or even faster the vibrations seem to worse when I roll out of the throttle and also the vibrations come earlier in the roll out of the throttle then if I was say going 45ish. Any advise is welcome.

Re: vibrations

Maybe a busted motor or trans mount? It does have 113k miles and you had it loaded up on the line for quite a bit so it would be worth a look. I need mounts and I only have 64k so you never know. It could also be your propshaft. I had somewhat similar symptoms with rollin on and off the gas and thought it was torque converter shudder. Pulled out the propshaft and it went away. Put a new Gilbert propshaft in and it didn't come back. Start with the easy stuff first.

Re: vibrations

Common things for highway vibrations are bent wheels and/or Tire Balance. It also be the front propshaft getting ready to go.

Re: vibrations

I was wondering if it could be the propshaft or not, I guess I should check, also It doesn't seem to do it at lower speeds so I was thinking maybe the wheels were bent or out of balance but then again when I start accelerating it stops and you would think it would keep happening if not get worse. I guess I'll have to check all three possibilites. Also if I find that the front propshaft needs replaced what do you think of jerry mccoys or do you like another vendors better, also I'm on sort of a budget right now so keep that in mind, yeah I know budget and sytys dont mix but for right now I have a stock truck so its not like I need anything too crazy to handle alot of power.

Re: vibrations

Propshaft vibes are more dependent on load from what I have seen on my truck. That would account for you noticing it more or less when you roll in and out of the throttle. I highly doubt the vibration from wheels came to be after one day unless you threw all your wheel weights off at one time which would be....amazing. I would start saving now for the Gilbert propshaft because I have never read about it breaking even on highly modified trucks. I drove mine without a propshaft for about 1,500 miles without ever getting crazy hard on the gas while I waited to buy the new one. Put the new propshaft in and it runs fine with no ill effects on the transfer case. It may not be recommended to do this but that's really only if you wanna intentionally blow the tires away everywhere you go. Buy the Gilbert and you won't have to buy another one down the road. That's what I did and I'm happy.

How much is the gilbert and also are there any modification you have to make to install it?

Re: vibrations

The Gilbert is $399. Check some of our vendors to be sure. I got mine from Detroit Turbo and I think Waller carries them also. The only thing you need to do is get a pry bar and move the shifter cables out of the way a little bit due to the extra thickness of the propshaft. There are instructions to cut a piece of the lever the shifter cable attaches to down on the trans and then rewelding it to fit, but I found that it wasn't necessary. It's really easy.

Sounds like my truck! EXACTLY. Any resolution to this?

Re: vibrations

When the vibrations start, keep on the gas, with you other foot, press the brakes lightly and see if it goes away- If it does, it is likely the torque convertor
