vortec heads and 1.6 rockers ?

I understand that stock vortec rockers are self aligning. Do vortec heads require the push rod holes to be enlarged if self aligning 1.6 rockers are used? I am currently planning on using the stock rockers but would like to perform the work nessisary to use 1.6 rockers should i care to in the future.

i also believe u need to do some machine work so they dont bind up

Do you mean machine work for the springs so they wont bind because of the increase in lift? Which would also mean machine work for valve seals too correct?

no machining required... had 1.6 self aligining on my 97 ss for 3 years no problems.

now if you are running an aftermarket cam you MUST check valveseal to retainer clearence!!

contact will occour at .0480 lift.

use the beehive springs for the ls1 and you will be good to .0550 lift.

This is a direct quote from a member on the board in regard to 1.5 vs 1.6 rockers and how much flow they actually give/gain you on a set of ported Vortec Heads. FYI

Lift----In---ex
.500 255 205
.600 264 209

The difference in a standard 1.5 ratio and a 1.6 ratio at .500 is .050 lift. As you can see in the flow numbers half the difference between the .500 and .600 is about 4.5 cfm on the intake and about 2 cfm on the exhaust.

Use can use Comp springs and not have to have any machining done. They are good for .500 lift, the 422 comp cam has .510 lift on the exhaust. Not enough to cause any probelms.

i just went with the 1.5s,my builder said it wasnt worth the difference,
