weekend out (lightning, vette & rotary car)

long stories....

me adam and jesse been rollin the streets looking for some fun fri and sat night.

Fri, found nothing till we were on the way home, adam pestered this dude a a c5 till he gave up and mashed the pedal. I could hear him repeatedly blasting his bov behind me about 30 car lengths, then noticed the lights coming up fast, so I did my best to stay with them as they passed.

we got 2 stop light races (neither of us got a good boosted launch) and we pretty much stayed dead even with this guy up to 60-70. I could hear him banging gears and chirping on 1-2 and 2-3. Both times traffic or curved roads slowed us down.. vette driver was real cool about it, I'm sure hell have a story to tell about the two loud ass s-10s bothering him.

Then on to tonight, again, nothing out.. except on the way home, I spot a lightning leaving taco bell. So I had to attempt to follow this guy while infront of him.. ended up turning down the right road, and he got adam pretty badly from a 40mph roll.. god's hand was definitely pushing him more then us. So we give chase.. hoping to find one of those red lights I always find when I'm in a hurry (and never when I'm trying to race).

Well he turned down a 2 lane neighborhood road, and I followed. To my surprise he stopped and turned to race. Nice guy, mentioned that he had not been spraying on the road and would be willing to go from a stop now. I lined up next to him and did a shitty launch, 1-2psi where 7 nets me something interesting. We stayed next to each other much like the vette race. He began to step away as I let off... I wasn't gonna take the 2 lane neighborhood racing to the limit. I realized I was running about 13psi there and they set up another race with adam. The guy was apparently running 14psi (with a pulley I'm guessing), and had a 100 shot he wasn't using.

Adam stepped up and left the line early, stepped the truck all over the road and kept up with the lighting. I didn't see exactly what the outcome was, but I assume it was the same. He went home and adam decided to do the same.

I turned the boost up and went searching on the way to my house. Saw about 10 LED window sprayer nozzles and took a u turn. Lost em, but found em in a usual hang out area. I tested boost level which was now too high at 17-18 (boost cut is at about 18, so I have to be carefull about hitting it).

So I pulled up, popped the hood and moved the regulator valve between the two settings. Everyone came over, and I realized how it kinda looked like I was showing off as everyone was checking out the motor.

I sat there for a while hoping someone would do something besides scratch ass. I was about to give up when one dude asked me if I wanted to race the yellow car (pointing to the only car in the lot I wasn't sure about). Its one of those little rotary cars you always hear winding up at the track.. It coulda been a corolla or an old mazda, I have no idea. I see some meat and some traction bars. I asked him whats the deal with the car, and the only answer I got was, its spraying, but the setup isn't working tonight, he might have it fixed, needs to test it out.

I figured what the hell, ive seen these things go 9s and 16s, I have no clue what its worth, they say 12.9-13 ish times. Ok. so the entire crew follows us out to this race, there were like 12 cars, all poor man's sport compact bolt on boy racer types. We get up on a 4 lane highway, no ones on it, everyone piles on the side to watch, and they line me up in the center of the highway, drop hands and I get another one of these 1psi launches  The little car lurches and definitely moves out, I was worried in the first second that this thing was gonna wipe its ass with me, then I started to slip on by him, walked on it all the way to shutdown at about 80-90.

Followed them back, and a few people came over to tell me nice job, the yellow car basically told me to come back when he had his nitrous working.. "shit you got 4.3 liters AND a turbo, I'm N/A". I wasn't rubbing anything in anyones face, but I did get the excuses anyway.

Pretty fast little car, definitely moves out for a n/a rotary if it wasn't spraying.

Time for bed... Just wanted to share the fun.. dont do it very often anymore.

HaHa, Hell yeah. It's was fun!!! I like when Adam and Ian raced on the main road. I have to say, two Sy's side by side sound bad ass with no exhaust on either. I know my next mod, big ole dump tube after the DP!!!!

Glad to hear you guys are having fun w/ your trucks down there! Up here it just snows, rains, then snows some more, and my Sy just sits. I drive my Lightning most everyday, messing around some, while getting it absolutely filthy, but it ain't the same. Sux... :(

that lightning was so much fun...

some included info i got off the guy while talking...

he does 12.5s, 14psi, without the 100 shot squeeze.... he wasnt spraying with us, and i told him before hand that hes got us doing 12.5s (both me and ian are high 12s, when tuned  )

when i lined up with him, i had rox with me and i wasnt going to let him get the best of me again, since he rolled me hard already.....

did the 3 beeps, but as i was on the gas, the truck was starting to creep and let go just before the 3rd honk... i got about a fender length off him before he left....

i know i left with a shitload of boost, cause the truck slid out to the left hard and i was grabbing a shitload of steering wheel to stay on the road and to keep from overcorrected into the lightning....

i never did see him come up to the passenger window before i shut down in front of him... whether he just didnt get on it fully cause i he saw the crazy launch and the truck dancing, or that fender length jump made the diffrence...

either way, i pulled back up with him... he gave me props for having a kickass truck and the same went back to him..... i told him any truck that hauls ass has got my respect, even though im not a ford fan.... he perked up and said he was never one either until the Gen2 came out, which he dumped his T/A to buy his....

the guy could drive too.... not once did i hear a squeak when he raced both of us.... and he was leaving hard.

very nice guy... good racing....

on the way home, i got on it again, just to see how much boost i was running with him....

14.7 on the gauge.... and i usually run 18. wish i had that extra 3psi when he rolled me on the first race from the roll on....

Adam, Ian-

Hey guys, I was the Lightning guy. I definatly have to give you two props. Those are a pair of sweet lookin, and stout runnin trucks. I have to say, it was a nice surprise running into you guys. I never run into any syclones, and if I do, its some old dude that doesnt even knows what he has. I was in town for the Fun Ford weekend at OSW.

As we ran, i was in my 12.5 form, figured if i would have sprayed from a dig, on the street, it would have been ugly, and didnt want to risk gettin squirrley like that on the 2 lane road.

Next time I am up that way, ill be sure to post here, and if you guys are ever down here in south fla... look me up as well.

Adam and Ian, PLEASE save your pennies and buy an electronic boost controller! So you guys don't have to worry about boost ever again.

Sorry, i am not in the area anymore. I headed back down to Ft. Lauderdale Sunday afternoon.

Dont worry about that launch.... its all in the game. I was just glad you didnt get tooooo squirrelly! I would have liked to play around some more, and even show ya what I could do on the spray, but i really didnt know the area, and it was getting late.

Til next time bro! 8)
