Weird Intake/Engine Problem....

Re: Weird Intake/Engine Problem....

OK, you've got your foot in it and it cuts out above 4000.
Does it rev smooth above 4000, in neutral just bringing up the RPM's?
Assuming (big risk on my part) that you've got all the vac lines and the boost solenoid connected correctly then I think you've got to eliminate 3 things: over boost, fuel or ignition.
Do you have a boost gauge?
Fuel pressure gauge?
Have you actually checked the waste gate?
Is the cat deleted by chance? That'll produce an over-boost.
If the FPR isn't working corectly then, theoretically, you could be running out of fuel pressure. Haven't heard of that before but what the heck.

When was the last tune-up including new cap and rotor?
Cheers...

It acts up around 4000 RPM; it could act up at 3700 or 4300. It does have the stock boost gauge. No fuel guage. I am unsure how to check the wastegate. It has had a recent tune-up. I do not think it has a Cat. How likely is that the problem?

Re: Weird Intake/Engine Problem....

and you are RISKING an engine rebuild, with geussing, trying, and stepping above 4K RPM at 15psi of boost.
Maybe your engine is pulling back boost cause it's knocking like a mofo?
stock chips cut back boost if it's knocking to much.
GET DATAMASTER, or drive to somebody who has DM and ows/owned a truck like these

i wish you all the luck, and don't do anything stupid

Re: Weird Intake/Engine Problem....

ohw..and missing cats cause overboost, and that is verry likely!
(making the wastegate rod longer can help overboosting issues

As stated it is very likely. You need to figure this out. Just look underneath and tell us.

Re: Weird Intake/Engine Problem....

I checked and there is no cat. The truck does have a 3" ATR exhaust. The boost solenoid appears to be working also. I have a friend with a snapon ecu scanner and I powerbraked it in his shop and got it to build boost and it is reading 30LBS!! on his scanner. What can I do at this point to correct the problem?

Thanks,

Justin

Re: Weird Intake/Engine Problem....

powerbreaking won't get you 30PSI,
Get DATAMASTER!
how can we tell you what's wrong, we already pointed most of the stuff out for you, buy DATAMATER!!!!!
or sell that car

Re: Weird Intake/Engine Problem....

Are you sure your setup is utilizing the stock wastegate?

Sounds to me like you've got a problem with detonation or overboost, and its getting worse. You've got a stumbling issue at a certain rpm range that gets worse with any restriction of the intake. Every time you run that truck, you're doing more damage. I hate to just repeat what everyone else is saying, but you need to do some data logging to figure out what it's doing along the boost and rpm range. Ask for some help from someone who already has Datamaster; get this figured out.

LIke i've already suggested, post up where you live.. and ask one of the local syty guys to look at it for you.

Re: Weird Intake/Engine Problem....

I live in Swanton, Ohio 43558. I know the truck is overboosting. I think to fix it will require a cat. to be installed and possibly the wastegate needs adjusting. Am I correct?
