hey guys, its been a looooong while since ive posted. ive still been cruisin the boards pretty often, but ive been so busy finishing up school and lookin for work and then movin half way across the country, i just havent found time to post...not that y'all missed me anyway, heh. but today is my 1st day all moved in and everything so hopefully things shall be settling down soon and i can hopefully become a much more active member here. the guys ive met are all very cool....but now i gotta meet a whole new set of guys. heh im out east now. but check this shit out, heres the story of my lil trip from chicago to VA.
ok, so i am all moved out to VA now, but certainly not without its difficulty.
im near summerset PA probably 10 hours into the trip already up there in the twisty curvy mountains when all of the sudden my truck just straight dies. so i gets it pulled off to the side and my aunt and uncle pull over too (my parents were way the hell behind in the movin truck heh) and this toll way worker pulls up and calls a tow truck. while we are waiting we're talkin to him and shit and hes like see that dent in the guardrail right over there? and theres a dent like 50 feet away. he says, thats where all the semis bounce off coming around this turn. you guys are gonna want to get out of here as soon as possible. fantastic. so the tow truck guy shows up and the only place thats open at this point is some 24 hour road service place thats like 45 miles up the road....at 2.50 a mile, and 50 bucks for the hook-up. stellar.
we get to this place and i just got a bad feeling. part of me wants to think "they are mechanics, this kind of stuff happens all the time, they will get it fixed" and the rest of me is thinking "there are no credentials or certificates of any kind hanging on the walls, there arent a whole lot of tools around, they are telling me the problem before theve even seen the truck, they are clearly more concerned with getting more cars picked up off the highway than getting to work on the cars already sitting there" and i kept hearing damn near ALL my teachers at mechanics school tellin stories about places like these and how they always hack shit up and just get it fixed enough to get down the road far enough so that you dont come back.
so i call them at 9 this mornin and they say that they are just getting around to looking at it and they will call me back when the know the problem....hours go by and at 1 i decide to call them back. i get goober on the phone and he said they couldnt find the problem and every one has gone back to picking up wrecks on the highway (another great sign, they leave in the middle of a job) and so i start asking him questions about the diagnosis process and it was made abundantly clear that i knew far more about cars than they did. so after a little bit of freaking out and some phone calls we managed to get it arranged so that someone from here will go there and pick up my truck (at another 2 bucks a mile and 67.50 for the hookup) and bring my baby to here...where it wont see work till tuesday cuz of the holiday....and i start work on wednesday. but its priority on tuesday mornin so i hope it all gets fixed in time. i asked about getting a ,loaner car for the time being and they said that they dont do loaner cars, they do free rentals through enterprise. so i call the homeboys at enterprise and find out i cannot get a car because i am not 21. after some arguing and some profanity i could not persuede them to see things my way.
not all is bad though. my uncle bought me a new tv...fuckin sweet, one of those Sony wega trinitron ones. 27" of pure goodness. which is great cuz i only had a dinky 13" and that just wasnt gonna cut it. and getting moved in was pretty easy and i got my place set up pretty good. just that one little bump in the road really fucks shit up :-?
