What pistons is best choice?

TRW 2441, TRW H620 CP or SRP ? (what rings?)

On my shopping cart: Eagle rods,Main caps(4bolts)ARP stud/bolts,MHG,Clevite bearings,Melling HV oilpump,comp cams 412,1.5 roller rockers.

SRP's are a good choice. I wouldn't run the HV oil pump just get the M55A melling. HV could empty the oil pan we have as it has such a small sump. also make sure to replace the front main bearing with a billete one as well as the center 2 caps. it's only about $60 more

I talked to J&E about this and found out that our SRP pistons are not designed to take the amount of boost some of us are giving them. They claim that 14# of boost is all that they recommend. I am sure that they are hedging some and we probably won't have problems in the 20# and below range, but I am convinced that these pistons are not for our bigger builds. They have seen a number of collasped skirts on boosted applicated with SRP pistons. Thier recommendation was the go to the J&E turbo piston or a custom full disk for our bigger builds...

JE makes two different style pistons though I though.... theres like the normal ones and racing / high boost applications ones

There is a true JE piston and a true SRP piston. Both made by JE.

still seems like most people have diff opinions in that post,but seems like srp says nothing over 13 or 14 psi ,but some say 25 psiis ok,i hope 25 psi on my gtq67 they will stay together

When they start to sound like they are hammering a little, you will know that you have collapsed the skirts on a couple. I had no problems until I started running above 25# boost. It kept getting worse until I finally replaced them.

My cylinders walls didn't wear any when I replaced the bad pistons, but I didn’t put many miles on it after it started knocking. If you put a lot of miles on it after the problem it would wear the cylinders in an oblong fashion. What happens is that the piston skirts collapse inward allowing the piston to rock in the bore. This will put more pressure on the cylinder walls perpendicular to the pins, which wears the cylinder oblong.

....for my build, I am going with a set of MAHLE coated pistons...we'll see if it does any good...very comparable to the SRP units...

srps worked fine till now @ 20-22 psi but i use a lot of meth (Julio inside) For the new build i bought the turbo JEs

I thought the M55A was the high volume oil pump?

Wel after reading all this info about the pistons, i think im going to spend alittle more and go with the JE's and im going to run a set of Total Seal Rings on mine. Shouls be a bulletproof combo with the eagle rods, and be able to spin 6K or so no problem.
