Window Run Channels

So anyway, my run channels on both my windows are cracked. So I head over to the local GMC dealership and price out some replacements. I was thinking they would be somewhere in the $25-50 range per side. I about peed myself when he told me $162 each! So anyway, I know there has to be a handful of you guys that have had these things replaced, so I'm wonder where and how much you guys paid for them. I know you can get them from JC Whitney, but it comes in bulk, and you have to give them measurements, which I'm too lazy to do. I'd rather just order something that's already made for my truck. Any ideas?

Try ebay! I got window sweeps off of ebay for cheap. I think the seller was a1auto or something similar. Type in window sweeps for a search and you can find him and go to his store and check if he has what you need.

LMC Trucks also carries them, moderately priced... IIRC, I think I paid ~$60 a set consisting of 2 outers & 2 inners. Hope this helps!

Re: Window Run Channels

I replaced the driver's side on my daily driven S10 last year with one that I got from JC Whitney. It was torn like yours and the wind noise was getting old. IIRC, it was made by "precision molded parts" (made in Thailand) for around $42 sans S&H and it came in a green bag. My bud who helped me swap it out (he did auto glass for 16 years) groaned when he saw me pull it out of my cab... Said that the non OEM stuff leaves a lot to be desired as far as fit goes. Mine was no exception as it required a decent amount of trimming to get to fit right :(. I consider myself to be pretty picky but, I would use it on my syclone if I had to replace it.

Just so you know what you are getting yourself into, you are going to have to pull the glass to replace it :(. Here's a write up that I did on window guide replacement here. Beyond getting the window out, there are sheet metal screws and a steel plate in the window channel that hold it in place. Get those out and it will pull right out. Getting the lower "scraper" out at the bottom of the window can be a royal PITA. The ONLY tool to use removing it is one of those "hooked" hose removal tools. If you decide to cry "uncle" and let someone else do it, be ready to pay well over $100 for something that you can do yourself in little over an hour. HTH's

Well I'm probably just gonna give in and waste $340 and get the OEM stuff. I knew I could get it through JC Whitney, but I knew I had to do alot of trimming, with I really didn't want to do. And I heard the quality isn't even close to OEM standards. I've replaced run channels on other cars countless of times. All being Mercedes-Benz's. Actually thinking about, all being MB M-classes. So I have kinda a good idea of what it's gonna take. I have yet to pull off a door panel from my truck, but looking at pictures on the internet, it seems pretty simple under there. Thanks for the info!

I looked on LMC Trucks' website, but didn't find run channels there, but I went ahead and ordered their catalog. I just got the catalog in today and open to the first page. Judas freakin' Priest!!! Right on the first page. Window channel kit - $119.95 for both sides plus inner and outer window sills!!!! That is awesome! Thanks for mentioning them!

LMC has some good prices on stuff. However, you had better be sitting down when you see what the syty stuff sells for in their catalog  ...

Hehe, I saw! *cough*intercoolerpump*cough*cough* yatta yatta yatta! Even some of the common S-10, S-15 parts are expensive. I saw steering shaft for over $300. Last time I checked, you can get one from the dealership for about a buck 60!

Oh I see how ya are, $499.95 for an IC pump is out of your price range eh? I guess that rules out $109.95 for an IC cap, $1,199.95 for a CCHE, $699.95 for a injector harness or $1599.95 for a fuel rail ;)...
