ZR1 Wheels

I just purchased a set of the ZR1 wheels with the 9.5" up front with the 56mm offset and the 17x11" in the rear with the 50mm offset. I understand the rears will fit fine but that the fronts will rub and some grinding needs to be done. Can anybody tell me what and where I need to grind? Also, I know the ends of the axiles have to be cut off so that the wheel center caps will fit. How much needs to be cut off and does this cause any problems with safety. My locat brake guy won't cut the axiles due to what he says is a safety issue. Any of you guys with the ZR1 wheels had any problems?

i thought that was an issue only on the Z06 wheels...if not, i would think you could chop the axle yourself with a sawzall or better yet a hacksaw....just try to leave the nut on the axle if possible when you do so you could then back the nut off to restore your threads where you cut...

The axle stud needs to be cut down about 1/2" for the center caps to fit.

Also, the front of the A-arm will need to be notched with a grinder to allow full turn without rubbing.
I just wanted to remind people of an alternative to "rat biting" the upper A-arm.

There is a turning stop on the front of each lower A-arm. You need to add approx. 1/4" - 1/2" of metal to each stop. Welding is an option. However, I decided to drill a hole in each stop and thread in a heavy duty bolt (threadlock optional). IMO, this is a much better mod. It's easy to adjust, no hassles aligning the "rat bite" just right, no worries of removing too little/too much metal, much cleaner looks and best of all, it's easily returned to stock. Yes, your turning radius becomes a little wider, but you'll barely notice it.
