High Idle when ALDL Cable is Attached

Whenever I start my truck with the ALDL cable from AutoProm connected to the ALDL port, my truck always idles high (around 1200 - 1400 rpm) in Park, and the idle speed won't drop back down. This happens even with TunerPro RT not running. When the ALDL cable is removed and the truck restarted, then the idle speed drops down as usual. Has anyone experienced the same issue? Bad ALDL port maybe?

Re: High Idle when ALDL Cable is Attached

Sounds like your cable is in "10k Ohm" setting.
It should be in "OPEN" setting.

Moates have a very small switch on them - hard to see but it is there.

Check your cable for a selectable setting and try to switch it.

If it is an APU1 then there are two switches on the box one of them is the setting for "10k Ohm" and the other position is "OPEN". You want it in "OPEN".

One other thing is to check the orientation of your cable going into the adapter in the ECU. If the cable is upside down it will be in "limp home mode" giving you a high idle.

Yeah, the stainless roller rockers and plug wires finally arrived not too long ago. Thanks.

Re: High Idle when ALDL Cable is Attached

You guys rock. The high idle is fixed with the cable set to "open" mode and "stand alone data logging". Now I can't seem to get TunerPro to connect. It says "ALDL: Not Connected" when I try to connect to a stock 2-bar truck. I'm using the old 58_2Bar_1.3.xdf and 58_2&3Bar_1.1.ads that I downloaded from the Code59 site. Any tricks to get TunerPro to connect?

Re: High Idle when ALDL Cable is Attached

Now I can't seem to get TunerPro to connect. It says "ALDL: Not Connected" when I try to connect to a stock 2-bar truck. I'm using the old 58_2Bar_1.3.xdf and 58_2&3Bar_1.1.ads that I downloaded from the Code59 site. Any tricks to get TunerPro to connect?

a couple things to check:

1. With TunerPro program running: Goto TOOLS -> ALDL/Data Logging -> SETUP...
Check that the Datastream Definition is found in the "Definition File" box at the top of the ALDL Setup screen. If it is filled in with the correct .ads file you are good...if the box is blank use the BROWSE... button to find your .ads file and fill in that box.

2. Have your cable plugged in to the ALDL and to your computer. In your computer goto your: (Vista: Computer -> Control Panel -> System) OR (XP: My Computer -> Control Panel -> System) and then Device Manager and then Ports (COM & LPT). Determine which COM port your cable is using.
Remember this COM port # for the next step.

3. In Tunerpro: Goto Tools -> Preferences... check the "Interface Type" matches your device (AutoProm if using the APU1) or (MAX232/2-Trans/AP Pass if using a cable). Then check the "Com Port Number" box below and make sure it matches the Com Port you looked up in the previous step. Change it to the correct Com Port for your Cable/Device.

*One note: if the "Com Port Number" box is grayed out and you cannot seem to change it...I have found that tricking it works. Here is how to trick it: Change the "Interface Type" in the box above to a different selection then change the "Com Port" setting and go back and change the "Interface Type" back to the correct setting. Crazy isn't it? But it seems to work.

AFTER ALL OF THAT: In Tunerpro Click on the two blue arrows in your Toolbar to connect. (If you don't have blue arrows showing that is found by selecting View -> Toolbars -> place a check mark next to ALDL)

If using a APU1: Also make sure the OTHER switch on the back of the APU1 is in the correct position this affects the connection also. Try it in both settings and attempt to connect. ( those switches always confuse me on the back of that box. You should mark the postions once you find the settings that work). Link to APU1 information on Craig Moates' web site for reference: APU1 Info... and APU1 Info 2...

ONE OTHER IMPORTANT STEP: Restart the Tunerpro program. Sometimes that is all it takes! A simple restart of the program.

Good Luck!

Stock chip will require you to hit silence ecm command many times also in order to connect.

Re: High Idle when ALDL Cable is Attached

It's a no go, unfortunately. I double checked the com port and had the correct ADS file loaded. It just refused to connect to a stock truck. On the other hand, I have no problems connecting to a truck running Code59. Looks like I will need to find a battery so I can resurrect my old Diacom laptop.

Re: High Idle when ALDL Cable is Attached

If you can connect to 59, have a 58 xdf and ads file (make sure both are loaded) it should connect.

go to ALDL screen, hit connect then highlight silence ECM and hit send about 20 times as fast as you can. Watch the packet error counts for them to stop, repeat as needed. It will work, done it 100 times before we fixed the communication issues with stock code.

Diacom, datamaster, etc all basically did this rapid shutup command so the ecm would listen and connect automatically. Tunerpro being more universal program doesn't.

Re: High Idle when ALDL Cable is Attached

$58 wouldn't connect reliably in unpatched form... it worked ok with the ALDL patch.
code59 has this issue fixed, which is why it works there.
