    Failed Ca. Smog-looking for ides

Hi Guys, Haven't posted for some time as my Sy has been in the garage under a cover while working on other projects. I bought it two years ago and it passed smog after a tune up, oil change, ect. I took it out of the garge on Saturday, put about 50 miles on it, topped the tank off with fresh...

what oil to break in the motor?

Re: what oil to break in the motor? I work for a race team. We cycle 6 engines a year with about 8 rebuilds apiece to get through a season of racing. We break them in on the same oil we race them on. 100% synthetic. We keep an eye on the blow by meter during break in but have yet to have a ring...

Rough idle and hesitation on acceleration

Re: Rough idle and hesitation on acceleration I had a really bad hesitation with mine. Sometimes check engine light sometimes not. It was code for the distributor output. Changed everything, good tune up, ect. No better. Changed O2 sensor for the hell of it and it ran like a new truck. Been...

    Alignment specs

Re: Alignment specs Don, I have bell tech rear springs but otherwise stock and I had the truck aligned with modded specs. Feels good and drives good. No sign of abnormal tire wear after 4500 miles. I see you've been doing engine mods, i'll be interested to see how it goes at Infineon. I know...

    turbo install time

Re: turbo install time Go spray WD40 or 6N1, I prefer Prolong but it's hard to find, on all the nuts and bolts for a couple of days before you attack the job. I'll smoke for a bit when you drive it but the heat really lets the penetrante get in there. Don't use so much you risk a fire.

    Aluminum pan and rear cover...

Re: Aluminum pan and rear cover... Make sure you have the proper 12 point socket for the bolts that come in the kit. 1/4 inch drive is best because of limited clearance at the back of the transmission. I just installed both of the same and was really happy with the fit and the quality...

    black sy in torrance

Re: black sy in torrance I live in Huntington Beach. I've finaly got the Sy to be a real nice daily driver. Runs really good (stock) and works the way I want it to. I've had it about 1 1/2 years. It has 50k on the odometer. Lots of fiddiling with the little stuff- I'm sure you know. Next step...

Only hot air out the vents

Re: Only hot air out the vents Update: Armed with that helpful info it took me all of 2 mins. to do an at-work parking lot repair. The red clip on the control panel side had come astray. One self tapping screw and I'm back in biz! You guys rule.

Only hot air out the vents

Re: Only hot air out the vents Yeah, that's exactly whats happening. I can see where a previous owner tried to "fix" it with some stacked up washers and screws. I see that whole control housing is pretty pricey. At least I have the door closed now. Probably won't need heat in So Cal for oh...

Only hot air out the vents

Re: Only hot air out the vents OK, checked things out this am. Damper door was definetly in the open position. The cable is hooked up on both ends. It will pull the door open when I put the heat selector on hot but won't push it closed to shut the door. Anyway, I closed the damper door manually...

Only hot air out the vents

Re: Only hot air out the vents Great info, thanks. It feels like the temp control is vacume operated so if it's a cable I'm sure it's off on either end. I'll check it out. How do you like New London? Grew up right across the Thames. My dad was Sub Service.

Only hot air out the vents

Hey Guys, My Sy is only blowing hot air out the vents irregardeless of where I have the switches set. A/C comes on when you switch it to a/c but only heat out the vents. Same if you put it on vent with temp switch on cool at the bottom. It almost seems like heater valve is in-op but I can't...

    Replacing CV Boot- Any Tips?

Re: Replacing CV Boot- Any Tips? Ball joints are a piece of cake. Take the cotter pin out and back the nut way off. Get a ball joint fork and a 5lbs sledge. Position the fork so you won't tear the boot and give it a few whacks. When it breaks loose finish removing the nut. You may want to...

    Replacing CV Boot- Any Tips?

Re: Replacing CV Boot- Any Tips? Thanks for the tips. I got it done in about 1 1/2 hours from floor jack up to floor jack down. Quick over view: Wheel off, brake caliper and caliper bracket off ( I have LS1 conversion-otherwise no bracket to take off). Rotor off. Three bolts that hold bearing...
